Nuggets from Bruce:

On Westry and the surgery: He "has pretty much missed the fall, so he'll be back in say 3 more weeks and so what's he gonna be like when he comes back, cause we'll be starting play right about then. That'll be a bit of a challenge".

A few players dealing with the flu.

Talked about competition on the floor and much to my surprise he says "him (Flanigan) and Chris are a great example, I couldn't tell you right now who would start, I'd probably give Chris the nod because he's been out there out the whole time".

"I could see Chance playing 1, 2 or 3 and where he plays may be a reflection on where our roster is the weakest at that position, or doesn't have the most depth".

Talked about Wendell getting the nod over Tre without Westry on the floor.

Mentioned the other competitions of KD/Zep, Jaylin/Yohan and Cardwell/Broome but didn't offer whose leading those positions.

But then we kept feeding AF think we would let him shoot his way out of his slump. And then AF didn’t shoot his way out of it.

He has always had terrible shot mechanics. Frankly I can’t believe he hasn’t worked on that more during his time at Auburn because his dad is a coach and he’s a good enough athlete to play pro ball if he could shoot but his form is downright awful. If he hasn’t completely broken down his shot and built it back up with some degree of shooting form by now, then he’s going to be the same AF he was last year, and the year before, and the year before.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing. I kind of write Moore off in my head just because he has found such little PT in his time here but he has always impressed me with his energy and effort in limited opportunities. Hope he’s made a leap this off-season cause we have to get more production at the 3 spot.

I was shocked to learn that we have 0 preseason all-SEC players. Not that it matters too much, but surprising.

I also hoped the pundits would put us higher than 4th in the conference preseason

I am feeling S16 is the ceiling for this squad. I'd be happy with it.

Looks like Wendell and Jaylin are the players representing for media days. I thought I had read where it would be Wendell and KD. But I also believe KD is one of the players Bruce referenced to dealing with the flu, so I'm not reading anything into it.

* UPDATE: It has been posted by AU that KD couldn't participate "due to a viral eye infection".

For those interested, Torvik has the Tigers finishing 19-11 (10-8). It appears he has missed the final game for the Cancun Challenge on 11/23 since the opponent hasn't been established yet. So take your pick on the final Cancun game against N.Western or Liberty and add another W or L to the above prediction.

Studying the breakdown of his W/L, I can't say I have easy arguments to add much more than 1-2 more wins and I'm assuming the final Cancun is a W. That put's me somewhere around 21-22 wins overall and 11-12 conference wins.

We have a tough schedule. We don’t have blue bloods up and down but some difficult out of conference games to go along with a difficult sec grind. If we shoot it from 3 good I think we could be a 2/3 seed. If we shoot it average a 4/5. If we are below average probably a 7/8 seed type team.

I expect us to be 2-5 in the conference. UK will probably walk the dog this season.

Justin Ferguson
@JFergusonAU

Auburn HC Bruce Pearl said SG K.D. Johnson texted him the other day, thanking him for having his back

"I immediately called my son Steven and said, 'What has he done, and what haven't you told me what he's done?'

"...Then I realized it was because he got his first NIL check."

Have to think he told this story to get it out in the press about how they are doing with NIL

I didn’t get that vibe. I gathered he was letting recruits know they would be taken cared of.

I’m curious to see if we see a smaller, 5-out lineup every now and then with Jaylin at the 5.

We have lineup options for days.

Bruce days Moore and Flanigan is in stiff competition. Surely not for 1 and 2 at the 3.

Yes Flan and Moore are battling at the 3. I think by the time the season starts it will be Flan with more getting 10-12 minutes. Then Westry will play the 1 &3 an probably take most of Moores minutes away by February. I think Bruce likes Zep and KD at the 2 and Zep from the 2 seems to be a much more willing shooter plus he has I’ll get minutes at the 1 as well.

I could see this being it eventually but Westry is out right now and won’t be fully back until when games have already started

With Westry out, it seems like it will be Moore and Flanigan to start the 3. Every position seems to be 2 players deep with Westry being the "swiss army knife" moving where depth is needed most (and I agree the 1 & 3 slots are his most likely).

I have a question though on our numbers. I have us with 12 on scholarship but I've heard Bruce and others use the "we have 13" players. Was Lior given a scholly? I thought we might be fulfilling our penalty obligations this year by only having 12 like last season.
