That was Murray state

League really needs a new guy to show up and be charismatic and elite ASAP

I think Wemby can be that. He’s charismatic and has GOAT talent potential.
Houston is actually very good (3rd in the West) and loaded with talent. Jabari just isn’t asked to score or be a focal point in their offense, which is a shame from an Auburn fan perspective for sure, but most rockets fans I follow who aren’t simply box score watchers are really happy with his play and improvement. He’s one of their best defenders, a great rebounder, and plays within the offense. His shooting percentages aren’t bad (not elite right now either tho certainly).

He was never going to be a #1 option in the NBA - he’s not explosive enough and has never had a great handle. I think as his career goes on he’ll get more opportunities to score, he’s just still young and learning to play team ball.
Seconded. I keep coming to the board looking to talk basketball and it’s tough not having a running pinned thread to do so. Not sure why the previous thread was ever unpinned.

Jabari has been absolutely hooping recently. Too lazy to post a bunch of stats right now, but he just had a career high 34 pt game, has been on a tear the last 3 games, and his efficiency is way up this year vs. last. He’s finally getting more opportunities on offense now that he’s shown some consistency.

I’m sure it’s by an objective journalist with no axe to grind!

Ah, of course, Chicken Little himself.

Should be available for game on vs AU on 12/17
Did you see this somewhere? All I’ve seen is “he should be cleared to play soon after” he starts practicing, so I’m still skeptical he’ll play on the 17th.
Yeah that’s soft. Scoper is a big whiner, but I don’t think any of that was out of line.

Jake Crain seems like a dick.

I really despise his attitude. He comes across as arrogant and entitled on twitter and is unfortunately a big Auburn homer.

Goodman article on Cam

Posted by AUatWashandLee on 10/3/23 at 1:17 pm
Obviously Joe Goodman gets a lot of flak on this board, but I thought this was a nice write up by him in the wake of Cam’s return to Auburn this past weekend. Cool to see Cam at the game with Chuck, Frank Thomas, and Suni Lee.
Goodman: Is Cam Newton what we want college football to become?

If someone wants to post the full quoted article, feel free. Tough to format it on my phone.
Offense is laughable. If we don’t take a sack, we’ve got a delay of game or holding. Just finding ways to fail on every front.
The blues and the whites are sick. Really like the stripes on them (those are new from previous jersey). Probably my favorite jerseys we’ve had since ~2018/2019.

I think we are kinda conflating “better” with “better built for a tourney run.”

That's a fair point. I just think it's overly optimistic at this point to assume this team with lower high end talent is going to be better than a team that was the best in the country for a large stretch of the season and had multiple first round picks. I agree guard play potentially gives us a higher upside for March, but we have no idea how this team will gel and haven't seen most of these new guards in action yet.

quote:

I would be shocked if this team has a better regular season than 2021-2022 but I could definitely see it being extremely dangerous in March due to shooting ability and defensive potential

I agree with this. Defense is a big question mark though and I haven't the first idea what to think about that side of the ball's potential.
I’m having a hard time seeing how this year’s team is going to be better than 2021’s. Sure, our guard play looks significantly improved on paper, but we absolutely struck lightning in a bottle with Kessler and Jabari. That team had rare talent, even if guard play was lacking. Even 19-20’s looked better on paper I think between the experienced guard play and a lottery pick in Okoro.

I’m excited about this year’s team and think we will be better than last year, I just don’t yet see the high upside for this team because we only have one high end talent on the roster right now (maybe two if you count Johni Broome), and he’s a freshman. I do think we will be a much more fun team to watch.
It’s the best non-conference schedule I can remember us having. Really excited to have a chance to show out in some of these big games when I feel like our OOC has been a little disappointing the last few years, but our team is just such an unknown with all these new faces. We’re going to learn a lot about them very quickly.
