Steiner won The Opening football rating championship with a 148.17. The rating consists of the forty, vertical jump, a short shuttle agility drill, and a powerball throw.

Having these two freaks patrolling our defense the next few years gives me the feelies.

Boom! Tigers land 4-star LB Wesley Steiner
quote:
FRISCO, TEXAS -- The Auburn Tigers on Tuesday landed a player who arguably is the most athletic recruit in the country when 4-star linebacker Wesley Steiner of Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County committed to Gus Malzahn’s program over Stanford and LSU.
He not only is the No. 72 overall recruit nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite but Monday won the Football Rating Championship at The Opening Finals against many of the sport's top recruits.
“Auburn is about family and the coaches have a connection with God. They believe in Jesus,” Steiner said. “You put those two together and you get a nice happy mix of what you need in your life.”
quote:
Steiner is commitment No. 13 for the Tigers.
They’re now up to No. 12 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings. That’s a jump from No. 29 on June 1, when Auburn had only six commitments.
quote:
At linebacker, the Tigers have three 4-stars committed — Steiner, Trenton Simpson and Cameron Riley. Simpson is the No. 52 overall recruit in the country.
Steiner gave Auburn a silent commitment last Thursday — the same day another 4-star linebacker target, Desmond Tisdol, went on the record to say the Tigers led and he was close to making a decision. It’s believed Auburn may only have room for one of those inside backers at this time. Tisdol’s comments pushed Steiner, who had planned to ride things out awhile, to make the move now for fear of losing a spot in the class.
quote:
What is Auburn getting in the 5-feet-11.5, 220-pound Steiner? Here is his most recent scouting report:
“Compact, muscled build with a developed lower body and power base. Is one of the top athletes in his size range for the 2020 cycle. Has a rare combination of strength, power and speed as an athlete with outstanding testing marks in the 40-yard dash and vertical leap in addition to being a top thrower in track. Transfers that power and athleticism over the field, where he stars as a running back and linebacker for his high school. Shows very nice range on defense with the ability to play in space covering in the slot. Has outstanding closing speed and is a physical finisher at the point of attack with high-level striking power. Is a a dangerous blitzer off the edge with his ability to time up the snap with his top-end quickness. Uses his speed to track down ball carriers in backside pursuit. Looks to play with a high effort level, making several impressive plays in that regard. Also flashes his athleticism at running back and on offense. Not an overly long prospect and will need to continue honing his instincts for the position, especially as a run defender between the tackles. Has the ability to develop into a multi-year starter at the Power 5 level with the upside of becoming an early round NFL Draft pick.”
quote:
For Steiner, it ultimately came down to Auburn and Stanford.
“It’s close to my family and my family can come watch the games,” Steiner said. “And I'll still get my degree and I get to interact with amazing people and that’s what I want to do.”
For Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams, this was another big get. Worth noting, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham, Steiner’s area recruiter, also were heavily involved in this recruitment.
With Steiner and Williams, the bond has been strong.
quote:
“He’s a heck of a guy,” Steiner said. “Everyone loves him.”
Monday, Steiner finished the Football Rating Championship at The Opening Finals with a total score of 148.17 to claim the title as the nation's most athletic high school football player. Ohio State receiver commit Julian Fleming was second at 140.04. Georgia cornerback commit Jalen Kimber was third at 140.01

Now this is what happens when you have a bigtime recruiter coaching. T-Will and Kodi

I will not question Kodi or Twill on the trail.

Crime Dog, TWill, Kodi and Garner would be top recruiters on most other schools' staffs. We have a really good thing going right now. Really hope Gus can choose the right QB and let this team play! We've got the talent.

Yes....Now we are starting to use that Lil Nicky approach to recruiting ...the one where we have some leverage ..."You might not have a spot...1st come 1st serve". I think we should still take DT's commitment if he is willing. They are too good to turn either away. Never know what can happen with injuries, tranfers, discipline....ALA ALabama 2017

I think Carnell will be a great recruiter, but it takes two years.

Couple updates..
Steiner had 2 ints off deflections at The Opening today.
Tisdol still wants in, but we are really tight on numbers so we aren't sure if we have room. The fact that he still wants in after Riley, Steiner, and Simpson committed tells me he's not scared of competition and makes me want him in this class even more.
A couple Twitter videos from The Opening:
Kobe Hudson
Ze'Vian Capers
Tenton Simpson PBU
Wesley Steiner INT
Haynes King TD pass to Tank Bigsby
Haynes TD to Bigsby again
McKinnley Jackson
BJ Ojulari
Ojulari
More Ojulari
If you couldn't tell BJ Ojulari has had a very good day. Here are a few things said about him today:
I'm not sure exactly where we stand with him, but needless to say it would be big if we could get him.
Haynes King 14-21 with four TDs and 3 drops. Not sure if those are his complete stats.
I believe Capers had 2 TDs today. There was another note of DB trying to press him at the line and getting throw to the ground, but I lost the quote lol.
Kobe Hudson had a solid day too. No TDs that I saw, but a lot of catches.
All the quotes are from 247 writers, but it was too hard to keep track of who while going through 27 pages
If I come across more I'll post them.

If you couldn't tell BJ Ojulari has had a very good day. Here are a few things said about him today:
quote:
DE BJ Ojulari is very impressive out here, one of the quickest first steps among the DEs and uses his hands well.
quote:
Ojulari beats Nate Anderson with a swim move. Ojulari loves the swim here. Anderson gets the second, anchoring vs. a bull rush. Ojulari uses some speed as Anderson lunges and misses
quote:
BJ Ojulari continues his strong week going 2-1 against Nate Anderson (case could be made he won all three)
quote:
And in Best on Best, first rep, Ojulari blows by Marcus Dumervil. Dumervil gets him the next rep and then wins the rubber match.
quote:
OT Marcus Dumervil and DE BJ Ojulari have been my top guys on their respective side of the LOS
I'm not sure exactly where we stand with him, but needless to say it would be big if we could get him.
