After watching those highlights I think I'm more impressed with his arm than his legs.
Don't get me wrong, he will be an asset with the read option. Just think more Time Tebow, less Cam Newton. He's not that fast. He's athlete quick, but he's not that fast. And those jump cuts aren't gonna be nearly as successful in the SEC unless he's worked real hard on improving it.
His ability to make people miss in the pocket will be something to keep an eye on. He's not Manziel, Kyler Murray quick so he won't be making those plays. But Ben Roethlisberger, Teddy Bridgewater, and Jameis Winston were good at this with less athletic ability. Alot of it is mental ability though as we're seeing with Tua. He has more than enough athletic ability to make guys miss in the pocket but he takes more sacks than he should. Will be something I watch closely.
He 100% has the arm talent. Anybody worried about if he can make the throws should be comforted by watching those highlights. That first throw was a thing of beauty. A 3 step drop fade right on the money. The thing that I'm the most impressed by is the quickness of his delivery. It's incredibly quick and smooth. He also shows touch and the ability to drop it in windows. Albeit not SEC windows but he still made some very impressive throws. Throws well on the run too.
So imo after watching those highlights and as long as he has the head for it, Joey will be the best qb we've had since Nick. Not very stiff competition there but I think he is championship caliber. Now we just have to wait and see.

Looks like OU is blocking Kendall from going to WVU

So the Nix or Gatewood show may be in for a challenge!

quote:No. It was a post early in the process. He also just wrote this article...
Is that new? On JGT's podcast released last night, he said he heard Luper is a possibility

Luper moves to the top of AU's list
TCU co-offensive coordinator Curtis Luper has risen to the top of Gus Malzahn's wish list in his search for a new assistant coach, a pair of Auburn sources have confirmed for AuburnSports.com.
Auburn parted ways with running backs coach Tim Horton last week after six seasons.
Luper, who has coached running backs since the 1990s, spent four seasons at Auburn beginning in 2009. He reported to Malzahn, who then served as the Tigers' coordinator, for three of those seasons.
He recruited and signed the core of Auburn's 2010 championship team — quarterback Cam Newton, defensive tackle Nick Fairley and tailback Michael Dyer — while also dreaming up Big Cat Weekend, an early-summer recruiting spectacle that many college programs quickly replicated. He also formulated the Tiger Prowl, a barnstorming tour that brought Auburn to its recruits via well-appointed recreational vehicles and limousines that traveled around the region.
The NCAA later passed a rule banning those barnstorming tours.
Auburn's recruiting classes finished in the top 10 of Rivals.com's team ranking in three of Luper's four seasons on the Plains. The Tigers' Class of 2010 haul was ranked as the No. 4 class that year.
Luper left for TCU prior to the 2013 season and has been with the Horned Frogs ever since. He served as receivers coach for one season before taking over running backs in 2014. He has served as the Frogs' co-offensive coordinator since February 2017.
The Frogs have finished in the AP Top 10 during three of the past five seasons.
To land Luper, Malzahn will be forced to dig deep financially. Kenny Dillingham was hired as the Tigers' new offensive coordinator in December with a base salary of $500,000 per year. TCU's status as a private school means it isn't required to release contract information for its coaches, though it's reasonable to assume Luper makes more than $500,000 in Ft. Worth.

Per Marcello Luper has turned down Gus once already. Gus is making a second pass with more money & maybe an added title.

So no Trooper?

quote:No. Duke snagged him yesterday. Plus Gus & Troop supposedly don't get along.

So we're getting the band back together?
Posted on 1/16/19 at 4:20 pm to ellitor
quote:Ummm, didn't he just get moved to an off-field role? That hardly constitutes 'parting ways', unless he's already turned in his notice (of which I've seen no notice on the interwebs).

Luper was basically the architecture of Chizik's recruiting, no?

Wrong. I said I would take him with open arms.

Yes. I'd rather have Luper back than Trooper.

Luper would be a huge improvement and shot to our offense. Make this happen.

Time to gas up the Tiger Prowl limo!
