Nah, he'll get on the fild. I think he'll beat out McNeal anyways (if I read that right) and Holsey will move back to CB.

With his talent, there will be plenty of formations we bring him in.

It's hard to judge a guy on two years under that dumpster fire of a defensive staff... and consider whitehead only really play significant minutes at safety in 2012.

People need to let things play out before deciding on players, especially ones who haven't even played their junior seasons yet.

And sure, McNeal is a certainly below average... but without his shoestring tackle in the 4th quarter against Oregon, we probably don't win the National Championship... for that play alone, we owe him some gratitude (all bit it small).

Agreed. Who, exactly, is the boundary safety? Is that the position Jermaine Whitehead is in, or the position Demetruce McNeal and Josh Holsey are fighting for?

Either way, I would love to see Jermaine Whitehead and Brandon King getting the start at safety.

I would think the bigger guys Whitehead/King would be in line for the boundary position, b/c it's less ground to cover... the lighter Hosley/McNeal would be the field (wide) safety.

edit: never mind... just looked at twitter... Holsey/McNeal co-#1s for the boundary safety position.

There's a word for what you're trying to say. I think it's "albeit". Sorry, man.

boundary safety- SS- McNeal, Holsey, King. They are much more involved in run support than the other safety position and need to be physical and tackle well.

Which is the position everybody is expecting King to take.

TTsTowel 2014 Auburn Football Recruiting Thread Come on, it was Jermaine Whitehead's first season at safety. He spent his freshman year as a nickel back. Give him some time.

"nickel back"

"nickel back"

"nickelback"

.......I hate him.

The kill position.

He calls out anybody on our defense to take over for them on a play.

And literally kills. something.

From what I've seen King is expected to either play boundary safety or back up Garrett.

You can count me in as having Brandon King penciled in as the starter there. With the newly added depth at safety, I expect Josh Holsey to be the third option off the bench at safety, and the first nickel back. That leaves DeMetruce McNeal backing up Brandon King (been excited about this guy since he committed), who would make a much better impact for the defense.

Ellis Johnson ...

He's got Brandon King working at boundary safety, but said he has the skills to play the star/hybrid spot. Depth at the "deep safeties" is a concern, though, so King will work back there.

Looks like we are training him to play a couple places, and if he doesn't win the starting job, he will be in the first rotation for a couple spots. I like the idea.

From what I know about Johnson though, there will be lots of different formation variations to take advantage of certain skill sets.

I think his thinking here.

Justin Garrett is a star at the "STAR" position (SWIDT), and he has a pretty good back-up in Robenson Therezie. We also need Josh Holsey more at cornerback than safety because Brandon King can now split safety reps, or whatever, with DeMetruce McNeal. I just hope he is able to beat him out. I've longed for a big, hard-hitting safety back there.

It helps us spread the quality depth around to more positions. I'd hate for there to be a log-jam at the STAR position with Robenson Therezie and Brandon King backing up Justin Garrett.

Someone built evidence showing the SEC schedule bias for Alabama and Auburn

I believe Josh Holsey will transition back to cornerback.

He's about to damn big to play CB which sucks because he probably has the best hips of all the guys we're talking about. He has the size to play safety to the short side of the field with King / Whitehead

We're talking about Josh Holsey right? Thought he was around 5'9 180.

5'11 - 195 (from his bio)

Not sure how that turns into being too big for CB.

Milliner was 6' 201.
Elam was 5'10 208.

Side note....Andrew's sophomore year Carl Lawson played nose guard against West Forsyth and was completely neutralized by Andrew.
