On Saturday, the Braves traded Ryan Schimpf for LAA catcher Carlos Perez.
Pretty meh pickup, but it serves the purpose of providing depth at catcher while we manage this injury situation. We don't really have anyone in the minors that can step up at this point, so I don't mind it.

shite. Was really hoping to have Schimpf there to provide some breeze in the dog days of summer.

Don't worry, once Gohara heals up, he'll provide plenty of shade for most of the stadium.

Would have liked for Scivicque to have gotten a chance. I think he is the backup of the future for the Braves.

I only ask that we get to Acuna Time with a .500 record

I was thinking the same thing. So far, he wouldn't have really made a bit of difference in win/loss record, which is great. .500 would be awesome, and every game above .500 would be gravy.
My only concern is that Tucker plays so well that they are content with keeping Acuna down longer just to prove the point that it wasn't about service time. I bought tickets for April 16th so he better damn well be up!

How is the new (well, year 2) stadium compared to the old Ted? I don't live in atlanta anymore and it's hard to get a bearing of it and how it's situated to the city on mlb.tv.
Big week this week. If we can do well against the Nats, I may get optimistic for this team.

I like it. They did a great job with traffic flow design for pre-game and post-game traffic. My biggest gripe with Turner Field was that, if you decided to park in an official lot, you could sit there forever trying to get out. Here, with so many different lots spread out and with all the different ways you can leave the area, it makes it much easier.
The concessions area in the 300-level have very narrow concourse walkways. If the vendors have any sort of line, then the walkway gets congested in a hurry. I haven't sat in other levels to know if it is like that everywhere or not. I think the 400 level shares concessions with the 300 level, so that makes it even worse.
Otherwise, the stadium is great. The Battery is fantastic. The beer on the 2nd level of the Fox Brothers restaurant can be had for fairly cheap. I haven't been this year yet, but there are even more restaurants that are now open in the Battery, which should help disperse the crowds a bit.

My biggest issue is Uber pickup. It's still a nightmare, and I don't really know how they haven't creatively come up with some better setup.
I agree with you on the 300 level, the vendors in that narrow stretch creates pretty bad congestion. Probably won't be much of an issue later in the year when attendance is lower, but I don't want to rely on us sucking.
Same thing for the wait times. This weekend was bad, just like opening weekend last year. Hopefully it's just delay in getting up to speed (as opposed to the fuller capacity, as again, I don't want to have to bank on us sucking for it not to be a problem).
In general though, I laugh whenever someone complains about the Braves going to Cobb. It's a completely different environment that is better in pretty much every way. On weekends before games, the Battery is usually slammed.

They do, and it's definitely a problem. The 100 and 200 levels aren't much better.

It's so far north west of Atlanta. I grew up in south Atlanta (Fayetteville and PTC) that I couldn't ever imagine going to game up there. That'd take the south atlanta folks a solid 1.5 hours.
But I guess you get a lot more folks that live in that area, which a damn ton.

It's not that far at all. This is way overblown.

Rough start for Newcomb

Yea not a good night barring a major comeback

Unfortunately, Newcomb and Folty are a couple of guys who, if a couple of breaks go against them early, you better hold on for dear life. If Newcomb goes 1-2-3 in the first, or at worst walks Harper and gets out of the inning with no runs and a decent pitch count, then maybe the game plays out differently, but we need these guys to be able to pitch out of jams with minimal damage, and definitely keep it from carrying over into later innings.
Freeman had 2 costly mistakes early. The weird error where he thought he didn't have the ball but actually did, and getting doubled off at 2nd on that soft line drive out.

Off the bat it looked like that was a clear single towards left center. It just hung up there and didn't go anywhere somehow. I can definitely understand him getting fooled.
All in all, I thought Newcomb did a good job of getting out of trouble early. They had runners 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out I believe and none of those guys came home after already being down 2-0. It was a rough inning, but not a game ending one for sure.
I really do hope that Folty (and Newcomb as he grows up a bit) get their heads on straight and don't let little things put them on tilt.

fricking Julio...
Most of my unbridled enthusiasm for the year revolved around him making a big comeback from last year...ugh

At what point do we actually stop treating him like he's our Ace? When he's on, he's fantastic...but to be a #1 you have to be consistent and he's just consistently bad now.
