No it wasn't.

He coached here during the 2015 season.

Sucks to suck bro.

All these mental gymnastics make me chuckle.

Has anyone come up with an argument for why we should hire a guy like Norvell over Venables yet?

All I see is a lot of people trying to ridicule other people and take people's words out of context.

You tell me. That's why I said he quit on the job. He still drew a pay check for another year.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what you did, just makes your other statements stranger.

He's a head coach.

He scores a shite ton of points.

He's got connections the state.

He didn't get pushed out of OU and into a lateral move where he still has yet to get a head coaching gig.

I agree with your first two points.

I see the third point as a wash and the fourth is irrelevant in my eyes.

Plenty of upside with Norvell too. He's proven to be able to put points on the board and develop a quarterback. He's young, energetic, and has a couple of years of running a program as the head man. That is valuable.

He has also coached under some good coaches. Granted Todd Graham and Gus Malzahn aren't quite Bill Snyder and Bob Stoops, but they are good coaches nonetheless. He, like Venables, knows the recruiting footprint (Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma), but at Arkansas he'd be recruiting a different caliber player.

Since he is so young, I would have questions about who he would target for his staff. Having more resources certainly helps in that department.

So, so far we have Venables with a better Pedigree, a better recruiter, and many more accolades.

Norvell is a head coach.

People seem to disagree which approach will be better for the overall health of the program. Offense or defense.

But only one of the two (Venables) has shown so far that he can work without one side of the ball feeding the other.

That about sum it all up?

You don't get the concept of quitting on the job, or are you just being obtuse? How about this:

2013 - 208.67
2014 - 218.00
2015 - 197.00
2016 - 164.23
2017 - 168.00

That's our rushing yards per game. Pittman didn't recruit or coach as well after his boyfriend left.

I'm curious about how much weight should be given to Norvell because he is currently a head coach while Venables isn't.

No one can answer that but we have seen assistants struggle with the difference between being a head coach and assistant. It "appears" that Norvell won't have that issue, that doesn't mean he will be better just that he has handled being a head coach so far.

I don't trust anyone who really believes they know who is going to work out better. Too many questions to go around for both of them.

I would take either as long as we don't end up with somebody named Skip, Butch or Tommy. Today I'm leaning more Venables.

Really doesn't mean as much without the rushing attempts or the yards per attempt.

I agree with this. I don't know either. That's why I am asking these questions of my fellow Hog fans. I hoped we can have a discussion about it.

Contrary to what you asserted when you came into the thread, I am not just looking for affirmation of my opinions.

Not that you can really read anything into this but here is a statement.

quote:

“Well, because you guys bring it up it’s annoying. I don’t hear about it otherwise, whatever’s out there, because I just don’t spend any time focused on that. I’ve got a great job, and I’ve said that many, many times. And I’m very thankful and grateful for that. We’re in a great position, so why would I worry about what’s on the other side of the fence? I’ve always felt that way,” Venables said. “If people have interest that’s part of it. You either decide to listen or not. Right now we’ve got a tremendous opportunity this week playing for a championship. My loyalty is to here and my players.”

Yea, because that had nothing to do with how much we threw the ball in 2015 or losing J. Williams for the whole season.

We also allowed less sacks per game 2015 vs 2014.

Do you just make shite up or what?

I love my Hogs, so I'm going to support whomever is named coach. I'd be happier if it were a defensive guy, because I think it's the only real path to the kind of success I think we are capable of. I think it's easier to win with a nasty defense and a decent offense, regardless of conference. I think the last 20 years of national champions proves that point, with no more than one or two possible exceptions.

Eh, I still think your bias has been showing in the way that everyone has one. It has nothing to do with you personally but the fact you have been behind Venables for awhile now. Might not believe me but I would have said the same thing if roles were reversed and you had been a major Norvell backer.
