Who Has the Better Coaching Pedigree?

Brent Venables or Mike Norvell?
Norvell has coached at Central Arkansas, Tulsa, Pittsburgh, Arizona State, and now Memphis where he is in his second season as a head coach and has a record of 18-6. He spent his early career working with receivers primarily, and moved on from there to be a QB coach, offensive coordinator and associate head coach at Arizona State. His reported pay is 1.86 million per year.
The guy is a good coach. He is 10-1 this season so far and will be playing for a conference title.
Brent Venables has no head coaching experience, but his resume is pretty gaudy just the same. He is 46 years old and is only in his third stop as a football coach with Clemson. Previously he worked as a GA and later LB coach for Kansas State. From there he moved on to Oklahoma first as Co-defensive coordinator/LB coach, and eventually as defensive coordinator/LB/associate head coach under Bob Stoops where he was a part of winning his first National Title. He currently serves at Clemson as DC/LB coach, where he has since been part of winning another National Title.
All told his teams have played for 6 National championships. He is a finalist and a winner of the Broyles award. He has been awarded the DC of the Year award. He is recognized as one of the 25 best recruiters in the nation. He earns around 1 million per year as a coordinator and works with full autonomy over the team's defense.
So what say you guys? Both very good coaches. But who do you think has the better Pedigree based on tuteledge, wins, awards, and recruiting prowess?
Which coach do you think is better suited to jump into the fire known as the SEC West? I know my answer and it's an easy one.

Norvell. By far. Venables will have an aneurysm on the sideline one of these years.

You think Norvell has a better Pedigree than the guy who has coached under Bill Snyder, Bob Stoops, and Dabo Swinney?
Because you think Venables is gonna have an anneuryism?
Interesting.

To be honest I find Venables skeletor face a little unnerving. I'm not even saying he's ugly or bad or anything- I'm just taken aback a bit.
So, given that deep analysis, I'm going with Norvell.

Bielema played/coached under Bill Synder, Hayden Frye and Barry Alvarez, what's your point?

The point was laid out in the OP. It was a question. Question being, who has the better Pedigree.

Also, who is more likely to find themselves in over their heads in the SEC West?

I’m taking the guy that has actually run his own program and will be more likely to have a dynamic offense.

Thanks for chiming in with a serious answer.

One of my concerns at this point is that if Norvell's success at Memphis doesn't translate over to the SEC West, we may miss out on a guy who I think is much better suited (due to his experience coaching and winning at the highest levels of the game) forever.
Venables is starting to gain serious attention from several schools.
I fear we are gonna miss out on one of the greats.
Again

I'd rather have Norvell, but that doesn't answer your question.
I keep thinking about how Oklahoma fans hated Venables as a DC and wanted his arse run out of town.
Bobby Petrino laid the blueprint of what it takes to win here: An innovative offensive mind that keeps his best players on the field and tries to always keep the ball in their hands (feed the studs), a coach that demands and expects excellence from his players (especially on offense), someone that can elevate lower tier talent and squeeze every ounce of potential out his players. A coach is needed that can outscheme, out gameplan, and adjust accordingly throughout the game and at half.
Most of the above characteristics unfortunately were lost on Bielema.

Several coaches have laid out blueprints for what it takes to win here and each time the blueprint was different.

This is my thinking. At Arkansas I think it will be much easier to have an elite offensive with a passable defense. I just don’t see Arkansas having the ability to recruit for an elite defense. The best athletes in Texas and Arkansas tend to be on the offensive side.

For the reasons you pointed out, I think Venables has the better pedigree. But, as already mentioned, Bielema had a great pedigree, and it didn't do anything for him here.
When I compare Venables and Norvell, the question that I have is: Who can have more success on the side of the ball that they don't control? Is it easier for Venables to bring in an OC/system that can produce points? Or, is it easier for Norvell to bring in a DC/system that can get stops?

In the SEC? In today's day and age? Danny Ford had one decent season, dale nutt's best season was in '98 when he took over a damn talented team that Ford had recruited. Petrino had a 10 win and 11 win season before harleygate. We'll never know what Petrino would have continued to do, but I suspect it would have been very good.

Here's what happened here.
By the time Bob Stoops brought his brother back to Oklahoma to resume his DC role, Oklahoma had already won a title with Venables. The fans soured a bit when, after coming off a title, Oklahoma lost to two of the finest offensive minds in football. Mike Leach and Art Briles. Fickle fans doing fickle fan things.
Fast forward a few years to Clemson and Venables churns out top defense after top defense.
Member that time Clemson lost 8 defensive starters to the NFL, still produced a top 10 defense, and shut out Urban Meyer in the playoffs? I member.
Then member the time the following year that they lost another 5 starters and won the whole damn thing, dropping Hurts more times in a single game than he'd been dropped all year? I member.
And Venables does that without any input from his head coach. He has full autonomy over the defense there.
He is the best defensive mind in college football and it isn't really close.

The answer to this question is easy too.
Venables is on a team with a dynamic offense, quick strike, etc. Yet still produced top ten defenses year in and year out.
Norvell's teams may as well not even play defense.

No. I would be interested to hear a serious take on the question.
Potential brain aneurysm isn't to be taken seriously.

Because the head coach is an offensive guy
Far more schools that are mediocre at recruiting find success with offensive minded head coaches.
