That’s 3 in a row. Yesterday was the most disappointing of them all.

- Briles was predictable the entire game, yet tried to be unpredictable and call drop back pass plays inside our own five, which costs us a TD. Frustrating.

- Defense got in a quick hole early, played great in the middle of the game. Played like dog shite end of game. We will miss Catalon.

- If we run a 4 man front, we still need 3 LBs on the field.

- 17 isn’t an SEC corner.

- I believe from my seats I saw Odom coaching from the field yesterday instead of the press box?

- Our offense is lights out between the 30’s.

- Our offense goes full on retard inside the 30’s.

- KJ lines up under center to throw a short WR screen pass multiple times, but can’t line up under center for a QB sneak?

- For all the bitching about the defense, they gave us an opportunity to open up a 10 point lead after half by getting multiple stops, but the OC shite himself.

- I recall looking at the scoreboard and Arkansas having 100 more total yards, but only 3 points to show for it.

- Our record at 4-3 is better than where we’ve been…but we’ve 100% left wins out there the last two weeks.

- Officiating in this league is still terrible. How was forward progress ruled during an ordinary tackle? How is PI called on a ball that lands 5 yards out of bounds?

I love Coach Pittman. I really do. It's the first time (since Petrino) I've genuinely thought we have the right coach.

Unfortunately, he inherited such a mess. It'll take a few years to build the foundation and depth. People must realize that.

Another part of the building process is having the right assistants that fits what you want to do. I just have a hard time believing that Briles' offense and play calling is the vision that Pittman has.

Maybe I'm incorrect in my thinking, but I do wonder about Briles and how his play calling fits in here.

ETA: frick the shitty officials the SEC has. We are the best damn conference and we need the best damn officials.

Briles’ offense isnt really that bad. The problem is iit relies on good decisions by players on the options and he doesn’t make the right calls in the right situations.

It’s great in the ACC, Big 12, and Pac 12. Not in the SEC where teams have speed and edge setters to (largely) take away the horizontal passing game and east-west stuff.

As Jimbo Fisher once said, it’s tough to be cute with your offense in the SEC because we have more “big fast and fast big” down here.

The thing that drove me crazy was I believe 6 or 7 series in a row we were in Auburn territory but only had 10 points to show for it. Blame it on bad play calling (which I am), dropped passes or penalties, we deserved to lose that game. These guys are physically worn down I think and luckily with UAPB coming up and the bye they need it badly. Not having Catalon is gonna suck, I am excited to see what Slusher can do though, regardless I think this team still finished with 7 possibly 8 wins end of season and I’m happy with that in year 2 of Pittman.

I think our guys are just beat up and tired after a retardedly hard stretch in the schedule. I think we will come back looking strong against Miss St. The next two weeks should do us some good.

Yeah we throw a screen out of it every time and it’s getting too predictable since that’s literally the only time we go under center

This

7 step drop inside the 5 was stupid
Our QB should be able to rugby scrum for 1 yard from under center

I’m just not understanding all the briles hate. He just set the school record for most yards in an sec game for us last week, and called a great game. When you score 51 points that loss is never on the offense, he called a good game vs Texas, we were rolling before kJ got hurt against Texas A&M, nobody has looked good against Georgia, and even yesterday where he had the most questionable calls, yeah running wvery first down seemed dumb, he was still able to dial up a lot of 3rd down conversions when needed, and had us in the game late into the 4th. He’s done a great job developing kj and with more time in this offense his decision making will only get better. He’s a young coordinator and he needs to maybe work on his red zone play calling but he’s an objectively great offensive mind that almost any team in the country would love to have. He’s kiffin before went to bama right now. And say what you will but when a coach calls a run play on 4th and a yard and we don’t get it that’s not on the coach that’s on the OLine

We would be beat Auburn if Arkansas was fresh and had no injuries. This is the time of the year that SEC teams start having injuries. But unfortunately for Arkansas we don't have the depth like Auburn and an injury like Catalon was devastating.

I'm not prepared to heap dirt on either of our two coordinators but lets face facts here folks... neither Briles nor Odom covered themselves with glory yesterday.

I know it is cool to hate on Briles and excuse Odom but they both copulated with the canine yesterday. The Odom "bend but don't break" defense only works if your defense doesn't, you know, break. And we continue to allow opposing teams to throw the deep ball at will against us. Its not just a question of getting Catalon back in the mix. Teams had wide open throws against us before he got banged up... their QBs just missed them.

With Briles he is very much a rhythm play caller. When he is in the groove every play call works. The problem is when he gets out of a groove. "I'm going to run the inside dive on first down to establish the run game every series" only works if there is some doubt that you are going to do that or something else. The announcers were practically screaming for us to go play action on first down. But he was stuck in his rut.

I think the issues we have this season are fairly systematic. Getting time off will help a lot, but they won't fix things. This is the game plan we are pretty much locked into. Odom went with a 4-2-5 to stop the run, and until that last drive where our defense had collapse, it worked to stop the run... not so the passing game. Briles tried to pound the ball and be aggressive and it kind of worked up until it absolutely had to work.

We need more talent and more depth, or at least not such a "oh frick me" run of games, for this system to flourish on both sides of the ball.

I think we go bowling this year, and we have a decent shot at 7-5. More help is on the way for next year so I would not start shoveling dirt on us just yet. Perhaps... perhaps we should just relax a little bit. We were not going to get through this stretch of our schedule without getting beaten up. It just was not going to happen with this team and our current depth. No matter how hard they played.

I kid you not... there is a decent chance that when all is said and done this may be the most difficult schedule that Arkansas has ever played and quite probably one of the most difficult in NCAA history. Lets not start panicking here.

I like briles, and Odom. But what Sulli said above is spot on.

they both screwed the pooch yesterday. Why in the name of beelzebub did Briles have us run, run, run 1st down all damn game. And Pittman's comment about it was ... well... WTH..

and Odom, the over the top stuff constantly, outmanned everywhere and the soft coverage sucked.

BUt, we are better... just so close to a much better record. When is better good enough, and when is it not.

For now, Better is good... BTW anyone watch Leache's presser yet? one blunt dude!

I mean i just flat disagree here. Not very many teams even in the sec can take the whole field away with their defense. The offense is a math problem every play. You almost always see someone pop open somewhere due to that or you have an outlet. It's designed by stretching the field to put pressure on the defense with a true 11 on 11 matchup.

I feel like i see people come open and run game shows up pretty consistently.

I also see us consistently miss those opportunities. Fail to to execute when we see them. And to top it off we seem to do this in the worst situations.

We are getting better but we don't seem to have that do or die moment in us. Or the will to put our foot on someone's throat and end the game early. We're still just happy to be in it and grinding.

Well it’s the same offense Ole Miss is running. Jeff Lebby’s dad and Art Briles coached at the same high school. He is married into the Briles family and was friends with Kendall.

I don’t think it’s the OC, I think it’s like Houston Nutt when he reined in Gus after he saved his job. After Gus had developed a better offense and got his lack of recruiting in better positions.

Yeah after Pittman's comments I'm concerned he's got him handcuffed and it really shows in the red zone and first down.

That would be bad.

It will mean he won’t be a head coach long.

The truth is, neither should be worried about being fired after this year or next. If I was Pittman I would say go all out, you do you. Remember I will rein you in if our defense is getting gassed but other than that it’s yours. I don’t think we have had any stars on D except Catalon, so Odom deserves some slack but any you give him should be doubled for Briles as he is doing his job and putting up points.

You now have some version of the same offense at Arkansas, Ole Miss and Tennessee. All schools that are in the top 5 in total offense in the SEC overall and numbers 1,2 and 6 when looking at conference play only. The offense will definitely work in this league.
