@FieldYates: Per @AdamSchefter, Trey Flowers deal with the Lions is expected to something close to $16M-$17M per season. Massive.

If you think he's better than Mack. Your nuts. I love Flowers and love the Pats, but he doesn't have the game wrecking ability like Mack on a consistent basis. But he does have his moments, see 16' Super Bowl.

He's not really asked to always do that though, he's easily the most versatile DE, too, with his ability to play the run and cover. But He doesn't have the super Burst like Mack or Miller.

That'll probably put him out this week too then for concussion protocol.

Update: #7 graded EDGE.

Patriots fans already know he is gone as he is about to get paid.

Why Trey Flowers’ Patriots tenure won’t extend beyond 2018; With an aggressive agent and a skyrocketing league salary cap, Trey Flowers is as good as gone.

quote:

With that, we circle back to Trey Flowers — who could actually have very little competition at the top of the 2019 free agent market.

Flowers, who doesn’t turn 26 until the middle of August, is Pro Football Focus’ eighth-highest graded edge defender in 2018. He plays everywhere on the line of scrimmage with equal effectiveness at each spot, and is as consistent against the run as he is in creating pressure on the quarterback.

Realistically, Flowers’ deal will probably come in somewhere in the $17 million per year range.

For the Patriots, things don’t look so hot with regard to keeping the former Arkansas Razorback. The organization’s history of paying top-dollar for pass rushers is well-documented, and according to Miguel Benzan of The Boston Sports Journal, the Patriots are only projected to have around $19.4 million in 2019 cap space. That’s before taking into account the signing of the 2019 draft class, and the $4-7 million that is typically used for in-season operating costs. The franchise tag for Flowers will be well north of $17 million next season, so it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see the Patriots take that option off the table.

Pats fans want him paid and consider him a cornerstone player:

quote:

He’s a) a cornerstone player b) with no clear replacement c) on a team that will need a strong defense to carry the offense once Brady is done.

Find the money.

Isn't Bert on the Pats staff? Maybe he will advocate for his player.

@247Sports: Monday saw pass rushers DeMarcus Lawrence, Dee Ford, Frank Clark and Jadeveon Clowney all get the franchise tag.

The biggest winner in all of that?

Trey Flowers. He now stands atop the list in free agency and is about to get paid.
