I know there was some resentment of Shannon when he was here before, so that makes me skeptical of this info. What about you Rev? Do you believe it?

IDK what to believe, because of CBB's problems keeping, and then getting other assistants. Dude went off of the cliff quickly following Shannon, Pittman, etal…

I like Shannon, think he is a good coach. His personal life has had it's struggles but he has tried to maintain them as private and confidential which I respect.

I would be elated to have him back for a few years.

I have heard Kiffin since the day after the firing as a possibility. But this search is held as close to the vest as I have ever seen. Love it for Hy is clever.

With that said, Hy had better get this one right and it better ring well with the fans. I think he knows this.

You should hear his cries about where the media is seated in Bud Walton.

You get paid to write (poorly) about sports. You get to sit in the lower bowl in seats that have a view that many fans would love to have. You get free food from the athletic department but you bitch and moan b/c of the student section or because you want to be courtside.

Sour old bitch.

Yeah recall they all (Ark media including Wally) reported Gundy was done deal when Long actually hired Big Bert? National media had to intervene and break the news of Bielema’s hiring.

Partially.

- On the coaching front, I'm still going with what I said last Wednesday night when I said if I had to bet, I'd bet on Lane Kiffin. Obviously with him meeting with Arkansas for several hours on Sunday, a lot of signs are pointing toward him. However, I think Arkansas still has more interviews lined up and it's going to be a crazy week. But I'll say this, if Kiffin does end up being the guy, I have heard from sources who believe Kendal Briles would in fact be his offensive coordinator, and I also heard there'd be a very good chance of Randy Clements being his offensive line coach. Additionally, I'm told if Kiffin were the choice, there's a great chance he'll want to retain Traylor.

I remember some in our local media were saying he was lazy and didn't like recruiting, but I don't remember who was saying that. At the same time, I remember seeing pictures of him with recruits, so he at least recruited enough to be photographed.

his recruiting isn't a worry for me at all.

He truly had issues with CBB and headed to Florida the 1st chance he got. He does have a lot of personal history in Florida.

His twin brothers became addicted to drugs and died of aids, as did his sister. He has held strong under those terrible situations and I have always admired his tenacity. FWIW.

He was great with those kids on the fringe or at risk.

This Archer guy and the media are a day late and a dollar short. Not trying to toot my own horn over here, but I've been saying the same for several days now. Campbell hasn't been in serious contention for a while now, and HY is not done interviewing. Something is happening today and tomorrow.

I shouldn't be able to scoop these dudes from Florida

Curious about this one.

I wasn't aware there were issues between Shannon and Bert, which seems to have been a common thread with guys like Pittman, Ash, etc.

I liked him and thought he did an outstanding job with the LBs in 2014. I'd love to have him back.

I’m from Louisiana and I’m an LSU fan, but live in Bentonville.

This is fun to watch. I hope you land a great coach. It’s sad when friends live on Dixon street, don’t know or care about the next coach.

I have a great friend who played for the Hogs and he suggested pay a coach 500k and 250k per win. No buyout bs.

Bert's assistant retention problem appeared to be caused by bert.

I always thought it was weird that the media turned on our assistants everytime they left under bert. it wasnt till they turned on sam that I knew something was funky

If Kiffin (or whoever) is hired , I would love to see Sam Pittman and Randy Shannon return. Both are very good coaches.

If Kendall Briles comes as OC, expect Randy Clement to come as OL coach. He’s been with him for a while.

Yep, but the talking point when he was hired was he didn't have the budget at Wisky to keep good assistants, that was going to change here. Turns out pay wasn't the only issue. I was ready to see him go, but I do think Bert could have/should have been successful here. His excessive drinking was probably his undoing.

Back to Lane. He was my top choice 2 years ago, but nice to see this actually happen. I do think he puts together a better staff than we've had in several years, potentially longer.

Well this sounds better than being a GA at Clemson 3 years ago. He also used to coach high school ball just outside of Dallas so there are a lot of Texas connections.

quote:

Clements spent the 2018 season as Houston’s run game coordinator and offensive line coach, returning to the school where he coached the offensive line from 2003-07. He was the offensive line coach at Baylor from 2008-16, holding the co-offensive coordinator title from 2008-11 and serving as run game coordinator from 2012-16. During the 14 seasons from 2003-16, he tutored 16 different all-conference offensive linemen and five All-Americans while producing the Big 12’s Offensive Lineman of the Year four straight seasons from 2012-15.

In 2018, operating behind Clements’ offensive line, Houston averaged 43.9 points per game, ranking fifth in the nation, and 512.3 yards of total offense, the seventh-highest total in FBS. The Cougars were one of three teams to rank in the top-25 in passing and rushing offense, averaging 295.5 passing yards and 216.8 rushing yards per game to rank 16th and 24th, respectively.

The offensive line, led by All-AAC honorable mention guard Mason Denley, was a model of stability as it started the same combination in 12 of 13 games in 2018. That group helped quarterback D’Eriq King, who was a finalist for the Manning Award and semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award, put together one of the best seasons in the nation.

Clements helped elevate the Baylor program to historic heights, including back-to-back Big 12 championships, behind a record-setting offense. The 2013 team, which won the school’s first Big 12 title, led the nation with an average of 618.8 yards per game and 52.4 points per game while also ranking 13th with 259.7 rushing yards per game. The 2014 team led the nation in points per game with 48.2 and total offense per game with 581.5 while winning the program’s second straight conference title and breaking the NCAA bowl record with 601 passing yards in the Cotton Bowl against No. 7 Michigan State. The 2015 squad led the NCAA with 48.1 points per game and 616.2 yards of total offense while also ranking second with 326.7 rushing yards per game. Baylor ended the season by rolling up an NCAA bowl-record 645 rushing yards and a Russell Athletic Bowl-record 756 yards of total offense to defeat No. 10 North Carolina.

While at Baylor, he coached linemen who earned a combined 13 All-Big 12 accolades and six All-America recognitions, including three unanimous selections. Jason Smith was an All-American, first-team All-Big 12 selection and the team’s co-MVP in 2008 after his first season under Clements resulted in a Baylor-record 96 knockdown blocks. Smith was picked No. 2 overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2009 NFL Draft, the highest-drafted player in school history and the Bears’ first pick in the first round since 1996. Cyril Richardson was the conference’s 2012 and 2013 Offensive Lineman of the Year and added unanimous All-American and Outland Trophy finalist to his profile in 2013. The next year, Spencer Drango was the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and a consensus All-American before becoming a unanimous All-American, Academic All-American, NFF National Scholar-Athlete, Outland Trophy finalist and Offensive Lineman of the Year again in 2015. Richardson and Drango were drafted in 2014 and 2016, respectively, and Clements also tutored Danny Watkins, who was drafted 23rd overall in 2011 to become only the second offensive lineman in program history to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.

In his first stint at Houston, Clements’ linemen earned eight All-Conference USA recognitions while blocking for three top-12 offenses in the nation, highlighted by the 2007 team averaging 513.2 yards per game to rank fourth nationally. After switching from tight end to left tackle, Sebastian Vollmer was developed into a second-round pick by New England in the 2009 NFL Draft and played his entire eight-year NFL career with the Patriots, appearing in four Super Bowls and winning two. Overall, Clements has coached 10 offensive linemen drafted into the NFL.
