Man this team is fun to watch. Never feel out of it when they are behind and the speed is a thing of beauty. 20 win SEC season after losing 6 position starters last year.

I think they are better than last year. We're a better overall hitting team. We still do hit a lot of home runs, but they aren't reliant on it. We still do hit a lot extra base hits though and are definitely more aggressive on the base paths.

Also, with the way Wicklander and Noland have come into their own this last month or so, I feel our starting pitching is actually better than last year. Wicklander has better stuff than Murphy, and Noland has much better command than Campbell from last season and doesn't get as flustered.

The bullpen this year has more depth, but I feel it was more reliable last year. Cronin seems to be more human this year. Kostyshock has had some let downs, ie Game 3 of the LSU series. Kopps has looked good for the most part though.

What I wish DVH would look for more of is lefty relief pitching. We have not one reliable lefty outside of Wicklander.

To his credit, DVH sent some young pitchers out there to take their lumps. Some them got rung up, but they have been tested by fire.

What looked like a very shaky pitching staff at the beginning of the season looks pretty solid now.

Of course, this being baseball, I say that with the caveat of anything can happen with a given series. We could have a complete meltdown weekend and get knocked out.

That having been said... I think we have a very good shot at returning to Omaha and potentially playing for a Natty.

I guess I’m just not seeing it because I think our pitching is way way worse than last year

It is. Relying so heavily on freshmen is scary.

You're right. Knight was better than Campbell, Murphy was better than Wicklander and Campbell was better than Noland. All the doubles and power hitting are what is driving this team's success.

I'm not saying our pitching is bad at all, but it was better last year.

Picked a bad weekend to not hit this weekend. Still won the west but this was an eye opener

Not really. Same issues that came and went mid-season. Sometimes we just don't have any timely hitting and our pitching isn't exactly lights out day in and day out. Omaha is still the prediction for this squad just because I think we'll out-talent anyone we face in a regional and probably Super based on our performances at home, but I think once we get into a neutral field situation and the talent gap closes in Omaha, we'll have to be hot offensively to make a run.

Our bullpen was way better last season.

Won 40 games before the postseason starts but a bad day or two can and will end the season going forward.

The story at A&M was a bunch of HRs particularly solo variety and strikeouts. Situational hitting vanished.

Yeah, we need to cut down on the strikeouts and get the ball in play more. Last season the strikeouts were bad as well.

Pitching depth just isn't there. Half those guys give DVH a serious pucker factor if he needs them in a 1 run game or tie game

If we do get to Omaha, I hope our players mentally view Omaha as Fayetteville North. That'll be our only chance if we make a deep run.

Our pitching, outside of Campbell, is too suspect. Hell, now our bats are starting to look hit and miss (no pun intended).

I'm concerned.

You don't watch much baseball do you? That's the entire philosophy of every team now. Strike outs aren't perceived as terrible anymore.

We’ve struck out all season. Going into the weekend we were 2nd in the league in striking out...while also being 2nd in walks, 1st in HRs, 2nd in triples, 3rd in doubles.

We are an aggressive team. They’re going to strike out...a lot.

this thread went from were an amazing offensive team who has good pitching to a suspect lineup of pitchers with only one good one and cold bats quickly.

It’s because most fans are football fans. Baseball fans understand the game and the lows that come with the highs.

At the end of the season, this club collectively hit .300+ and were in the top 3 in most all offensive categories in the league. Maintained an ERA that’s in the top half of the league.

One weekend doesn’t change what transpired over the course of a 55 game season.

My point exactly. Good things happen when we put the ball in play. The only stat you posted that surprises me is 2nd in walks even though I knew they walked a bunch.

Apparently I'm the only one left that dislikes strikeouts.

K’s Suck, but it’s part of who we are because of our plate approach. We had a ton of K’s last year as well.
