This is good news. The kid has a canon. And I've heard that he has legit speed. Anyone know? Is he a 4.3 in the forty kind of fast? That would make him Matt Jones with a canon. Get some offensive linemen and establish the power run. Make him really efficient throwing the slant and a few quick outs. Sprinkle in a couple of deep routes. And this cat will do the rest with his legs.

If for no other reason than to bring in competition for KJ this is a good move. WPS

I would probably compare his speed to someone like Roethelisberger. He's not going to look to scramble 15 times a game but can move around and maybe be a short yardage hammer. He had an 80 yard run against Texas A&M where he shook off about 3-4 tackles.

....................no................I would be amazed if any player in the history of our team, outside McFadden, was actually that fast. 5 kids ran under 4.4s at last year's combine......5.......do you even watch football?

Franks has 4.7 speed at best. If he had 4.3 speed he would be in the draft already

In fairness he didn’t say laser timed forty. A lot of guys run sub 4.4 with thier high school coach on the stop watch.

If that's the case, I can run a 4.3 depending who has the stop watch.

As a guy who played football basically all my life growing up it’s always funny to hear guys talk about their 40 times. You figure out pretty quick which guys played and which guys never played a down in their life or are just lying through their teeth. Same with high school velo when talking about pitching in baseball or somebody’s golf score. I’m a high school football coach now too and our fastest player hand held was 4.53 ( and this kid can really really run)and the next fastest was in the 4.7s. One of the absolute fastest human beings I’ve ever had the actual probe late of playing sports with ran a 4.6 went to southern Arkansas university and set a bunch of receiving records for them. If a guy on the street or Facebook says he ran anything less than a 4.6 I laugh because if he did he would’ve went and played somewhere. Same with all the guys who could hit 90 in high school. The Beasley kid from Horacio that was we gonna go to Arkansas but signed with the brewers instead was consistently mid80s and could touch 88 89 and had a pretty good curve. If your throwing above 86 in high school you are 100% getting an offer to at least play college ball if not professionally. But if you’ve never played either sport you hear certain numbers and just assume their normal so guys casually throw shite out there like “yeah I touched 88 a couple times” or “summer between junior and senior year I ran 4.43” im just nodding my Ahead “oh really that’s interesting” in reality I’m thinking no you didn’t

Sorry for the book just Facebook 40 times trigger me and I needed a place to vent

Didn't Batman Carroll run a 4.28 or something like that?

Edit: just googled it. he ran a 4.38. Still fast!

My favorite is the equation people try and use when I kid is throwing from 45 ft in little league...saying it's like throwing 90 from 60 ft, then assuming that will certainly happen when they get older.

Or those baseballs that had a built-in radar

The glory days guys are the worst.

If they were that good you would hear from someone else other than them.

I worked with a guy down here in Southeast Arkansas who was a great athlete.I knew that because I heard it from a lot of people, none of them was him.

If a guy is ringing his own bell, then he probably sucked.

Wasn't Joe Adams that fast fairly comfortably?

which means you were probably a starter in high school football and possibly even a skill player. Lots of bigger possession type receivers in high school run in the 5s. Our starting z this year ran a 5.2. He’s 6’4 though and has pretty good hands and that’s all you need

Joe Adams was super quick and very fast but I don’t think even joe ran in the 4.3s I think he was a 4.4 guy(which is still burning). The difference is if a guy is 4.4 and gets in the open field he’s gone if a guy is 4.3 like McFadden you can have the angle and he will outrun you to the spot.

Joe ran a 4.55 at the combine which just adds to everyone's point about how rare 4.4 and below is.

I will say Joe was very good at getting every bit of the speed he had out on the field. There is a difference in pure 40 time and how fast you can be with full pads and having to change direction every few seconds.
