Is Cal adverse to his inbounders running the baseline? Wagner just stands there, every freaking time.
Mizzou was running the diamond press. The majority of the game it was just an effort to steal time in the possession, slow the pace of the offense to shorten the shot clock and try to hurry the sets. Buzz does this at aggy. It's not really being used a press to force turnovers, just token pressure to try and shorten the number of possessions in a game.
When they were in this mode with the press, they allow the ball to be inbounded and try use as much of the 10 seconds possible in the back court.
A few times they went full denial, which is what you saw where the initial cut was face guarded. The secondary in bounder went to the corner which would draw the point and wing of the press to the corner for a trap, OK, so you send the 4 to the corner because they are taller than the two trapping and he can quickly pass the ball back to the center of the court to you PG who took the ball out of bounds. Since your PG has the ball in the center, two defenders in the corner are now beat and you force a rotation before half court and the press is beat. That is the logic.
They actually had a few layup/dunk opportunities when they executed this the correct way. Mizzou did a good job switching it up, but when the initial cut is being face guarded that is the tell of what they are doing, the other 3 players on the court have to recognize this and react to what to do. This team's biggest problem is they "take plays off" and are not locked in with a 100% focus throughout the entire game.

Cal said his back was bothering him. Looked fairly benign, hope that is the case. Can’t afford losing him although we looked okay at the end of the game. Means more Brazile ??

Thanks man, but this wasn’t a one game thing. I’ve seen Wagner do it multiple times (or not do it).

He's probably worst of lapses in the mental part of the game/Hussle at times.
He's let guys go for easy layups after turnovers. Lazy cuts on in bounds, etc
Running the baseline against the press wouldn't help as they are only sending one guy with no action to free him or force a switch as the majority of the time the press of token pressure only.

Almost feel bad for him
I don't. He made his bed.
He had a sweet gig here and chose to head west knowing what he’s have to deal with.

If he had stayed here, and put together a season like USC is having, he'd be on the chopping block

What's the word on Thiero?

His decline began with the Nick Smith Jr. recruiting class. That was a mess and his last season, he didn't give a shite.
I believe the high expectations got under his skin because this was his first job as a collegiate head coach that had such a high demand of return.
He failed in his last two seasons here and pissed off a lot of fans. He was looking to get out and USC was just the excuse he needed to go home.

Four NBA players on the same team and he barely made the tournament. He was never that good, he just got lucky in the tourney a couple times and it made people think he was better than he was.

It seems like the more talented players he got the worse the results he got. I expected the opposite
It’s interesting that it took boogie going out for this current team to get an identity and start playing together and developing leadership.
Maybe lesser talented players with more experience tend to play as a team better. I miss having players who stick around for a few years and not having to learn the names of an entire team every year, in every frickin sport…..

Brazile will step up

Can’t have Richmond or anyone for that matter, getting in foul trouble. End up holding an L in a game we should win.

Who is our 8th guy who would most likely play in an extreme pinch?
