His past history does not warrant me buying anything yet, I still think we have the second coming of Chad

I'm not excited about the hire, but we gotta let these Chad Morris comparisons go. The two resumes aren't in the same stratosphere.

I wasn’t excited initially and still cautious. However other than coaching in the AAC they are nothing alike.
His resume is much better. He spent several years in the NFL, which frankly is probably understated just knowing how to manage guys getting paid. Chads only claim to fame was coaching HS in TX and recruiting Watson.

Insane take.
Chad had been a HC for 3 years and only won 38% of his games at SMU.
Like him or not, Silverfield has double the HC experience, won an average of nearly 9 games a year, and had a couple of 10 win seasons, and is 2-1 against SEC teams.
He may or may not work out, but saying he’ll be a redux of the worst coach in SEC history is crazy to me.

FEW DC Thoughts from Quant
A few who might actually come from Tier 1/2
Ryan Walters
Current School - Washington DC
Current Pay - 1.2 Million
2025 Total Defense Rank - #20
History - Was on Pinkels staff as a DC at Mizzou, Became DC when Barry took over, and was there Drink's first year.
Corey Batoon
Current School - MIzzou DC
Current Pay - 1 Million
2025 Total Defense Rank - #10
History - Bounced around G5 schools and joined Drink in 2024
Vince Kehres
Current School - Toledo DC
Current Pay - 250k
2025 Total Defense - #2
History - Been at Toledo since 2020, routinely has the rockets in the top 30 in total defense.
Longshot
Jim Knowles, we all know who he is, he makes 3.1 mil per year at Penn St.

The fact our committed oline recruits are still signing with Arkansas says Mateos is being retained imo

quote:Yeah Chad is a bit extreme. I do think we fired Pittman for another Pittman. Fans wanted him fired for going 7-6 last year and that's all I see Silverfield being able to pull out here. Don't think we took a step up at all.

I'll be amazed if we win more than 3 next year. Hunter hasn't been and won't be fired and our fans have fallen for the new coach smell again.
Arkansas is not a serious program

By the metrics, Golesh was Chad 2.0.
RS profiles as a slightly better Pittman. Expect 4-5 wins next year (barring SC hire) unless there is a drastic, drastic uptick in talent over the next 2-3 yrs.
Ark talent right now is the lowest it's been in probably 20 yrs. In the low 30s.
Sam inherited a program with talent in the low 20s.
Realistically, they need to be in the low teens/top 10 to win 8-10 games anymore in the SEC.
Only way to overcome that is by elite, elite staffing and elite, elite portal evaluation....aka the Texas Tech model and an All conf type QB.

Morris will be making 3.8M/yr st OSU. Now I see why he hold out for our job for so long,

So what your saying is if he's the next Gundy, and if Silverfield is the first impression, Arkansas can easily pick up Morris when needed.
