Anonymous SEC coaches say that we're still going to suck

quote:
"There's a lot of work to do, and it's going to take a while."
"The weakest point on offense is the line. They've got returning production, but there's a big shift in what they're being asked to do from the Bret Bielema era to now. They went from downhill to spread; that's tough on a line."
"The good news is that in Chad Morris' system it's possible for talented freshmen to contribute right away at receiver and running back. They can get going and play them young."
"Everyone respects Chad as an offensive mind, but fixing this roster is a huge job."
"They're going after a lot of transfer portal guys. Can't blame 'em. This is just not a personnel fit right now."
"Right now it looks like their QB race is going to be wide open through the summer. I think it comes down to having system experience in the SMU transfer (Ben Hicks) or the transfer from Texas A&M (Nick Starkel), who is the most talented."
"Chief's (John Chavis) defense in Year 2 is going to be aggressive. They have to be. Their linebackers are average, and their front doesn't have any depth. They're going to struggle against most teams because the physicality isn't there. That's not on Chief, it's just the roster."
"Right now the job is to keep momentum in recruiting and build on that. It can turn quick if they recruit like they have been, because they're out selling immediate playing time in a high-scoring system in the SEC, and kids are noticing."
Long way to go

Roster has needed turnover for a few years and we are getting close to the finish line. More than 40 gone since Chad has become HC.

None of these coaches know what's going on inside our program. They are just putting their opinions out. Also, it's easy to talk anonymous when the coaches name isn't on the line.

Notice that even anonymously the coaches aren’t shitting on Morris they’re talking about how bad the roster is

Yeah, I didn't pick up - we are going to suck - which implies winning games. The coaches took a broad perspective of what the general consensus is, and says it's going to require work, but chad is putting in the work.

Pretty much all points that we’ve all been saying. Anyone watching our film can see that the OL he was left with was easily the worst in the SEC. It’s up to him and Fry to recruit and coach their way out of that hole for sure but it’s going to be a steep uphill climb.

I could see this season having a ramp-up feel to it similar to Bert's 8-5 season. Started off so bad we lost to Toledo then by the end of the year we were probably a top 15 team. We won't win that many games, but that team slowly got better as the year progressed and the improvement was visibly apparent on the field. Could easily see the same kind of arc to this season, but obviously with a lower starting point and finish.

Pretty sure all stat lines will improve, pretty hard not to, and that will show some positives. May not be enough for some fans though.

I had forgotten that we were ranked to start the season that year. Only scoring 24 against Texas Tech might have been worse than losing to a pretty good Toledo team, I can understand giving up 35 to Mahomes but it's crazy how the offense just flipped a switch during the year and started scoring like crazy.

Yeah that texas tech loss was dumb. Don't know how we lost in '15, after beating them in '14.

The quotes sound just like the anon comments made the year Petrino was fired.
They are not shitting on his offensive coaching ability, but the are not saying he is going to build and manage the roster effectively either.

Cutting some or the cancer out of the program will help as well. Chad wouldn’t go as far as saying that but it was obvious one of his interviews before camp that there were huge issues in the locker room.

More mild than what I expected TBH

This. One even acknowledged that our recruiting is in fact being done at a high level. I sense they feel like we are on the rise l.
