I'm wondering if this isn't Muss's thoughts. For all we know, he's having these discussions with the players prior to portal decision. I'd be fine with a coach telling me that I may want to go elsewhere for a year or two to get some quality PT and heres a list of things you need to improve on if you want to take the next step. Stay in touch with them, continue to eval their progress or lack thereof with them. It could be a win-win situation.

If we don't see another guy come in over the next 48 hrs or so, then the choice may have actually been Ford's and he wasn't necessarily pushed out.

Off topic, but maybe the University needs to create a new class for our players and students. Maybe something like the technique and psychology of the 3 point shots and free throws as it relates to your preferred pronouns. Let'em practice that shite and get class credits.

Also wonder if this means Devo has decided to return.

I don't like any player from Arkansas that transfers out because that could hurt recruiting within the state when you have lean years or have a new coach.

I'm wondering if someone didn't step in with some NIL money to make Ford reconsider.

Heard him on the radio a couple of days ago, didn't detect any hints of leaving.

Wanting to come back and having a spot on the roster are two different things.

College basketball is now about veterans, experienced players and the transfer portal allows coaches to have better knowledge if someone can play at this level.

IMO the top ~30-40 national freshmen recruits are the ones who should go to major schools and expect some playing time.

Guys closer to 80-100 should go to a mid-major get playing time. As they develop use the portal to get to a power conference roster after being FOY or DPOY in a mid-major.

Just odd to have two guys, Dunning & Ford, announce they’re returning but then enter the transfer portal.

Guess it’s to be expected in the transfer portal era where as you say, wanting to come back and having a roster spot are different. Coaches have more control over creating their ideal roster vs being stuck with dead weight.

Yeah for a coach to likes to keep the rotation to 8 or so players I dont get what the problem is having a few players develop over time.

Sounds like Grant Nelson is hitting the portal soon and we'll be towards the top of his list

Kind of how I see it but I don’t think Muss views his team as a developmental institution. It’s the 13 best players he can get every year. If you want to develop then do it in the Sunbelt and come back when you’re ready.

With that said, that style comes with major expectations. You can’t cut native Arkansans with upside and then go .500 in conference.

Look Grants pretty locked in the draft so the portal is just a fall back plan. Which is smart it’s not even a given he’ll stay in college
