I'm gonna go with Alfano or B. Young as the two that I think will see meaningful playing time at some point in the season.

Maybe one of the safeties we signed, but that seems to be a very tough position to come in as a new guy and make an impact, especially in a defense as complex as Saban's.

I started a thread about it during last season, but last season we had to have had less true freshmen contribute significant playing time than any year before.

Which leads me to believe that this year we will see a lot of freshman getting significant playing time.

Trey Sanders obviously. Going to win the Heisman.

I think Neal will start, and Alfano, Young, Eboigbe, Sopsher or Dale (whoever shows up in better shape), and Sanders will all play a lot.

With Saban’s loyalty to upper classmen, some will play but having an impact will be hard unless injuries hit us or just a stud player

I agree here.

Alfano will see the field but not sure if the rest will. It will depend on depth and injuries for those guys. If Sanders was already on campus I think he would see a lot of time early but it maybe a while before he sees meaningful snaps.

I mean we have practically zero depth on the D-line. That's sort of why I think a lot of the freshmen are going to get some serious playing time. Davis is the only starter coming back, and Ray and Mathis are the only two others coming back who have ever really played. Barmore and Wynn could both turn out to be monsters or they could both be total busts. We really don't know. Even if they do turn out to be monsters, that's still a 5 man rotation and we saw how that went last year.

With Sanders, I'm mostly basing that on his blend of pass catching and between the tackles running ability. I think that will get him on the field, but I do expect Najee and BRob to get the bulk of the carries.

I know the pumpers dont want to hear it but unless there is a philosophical change in rotations , 5 DL will be plenty

Alfano is ready to come in and play big minutes early. Neal at the very least plays a solid reserve role at tackle. Sanders will get lots of garbage carries. Outside of those three I have no clue but there are multiple elite athletes in this class, we just have to find out which ones are football players. I am excited about 2019.

Good objective point. I wondered why guys like Ronnie Clark, Johnny Dwight, and Derek Kief were starters.

Maybe they were not good

Clark was injured early on and never recovered

Agree with the opportunity for a safety to come in and get some pt. Battle and Hellams seem to be best bets. An OLB like King might have some opportunities since we are so injury prone at that position.

I’ll say Alfano, Sopsher, Young and Eboigbe will play anywhere between meaningful and enough snaps to avoid a redshirt. Shane Lee should also play a fair amount. On offense I’ll go with Neal and Sanders along with Metchie as a special teams standout.

Will also be interesting to see which of the 2018 redshirts step up this year too.

We need more than that. Someone said the players were wore out in the last game. I recall when we had more than 8. Good times

I was being sarcastic . Need all we can get. I just want them to develop depth in blowout type games . Nothing can replace game reps as far as learning/ maturing

At tackle or guard? I'm thinking Leatherwood moves to LT...I'd guess if Neal starts next season, it'd be as a guard...

Read where Pierschbacher was predicting the starting OL as follows (this was knowing Deonte Brown would be suspended the first few games):

LT: Leatherwood
LG: Ekiyor
C: Owens
RG: Womack
RT: Wills

He described Ekiyor as a 'beast' that could play any of the interior positions...
