This team just never gelled for whatever reason. Maybe it’s the coaches, maybe there’s a cancer on the roster, maybe there’s just not a natural leader on the roster. Not really fair to single out one player, because every single player that saw playing time had some really bad moments throughout the season. The two biggest problems as I see it are shaky backcourt defense and turnovers. Those two problems point to one position group.

We had four different players get suspended a various points, unexpectedly lost Primo to the NBA, lost one of our transfers for the season before he played a single minute, didn't get what we were expecting from the other one, our hyped up freshman PG was a misevaluation who was a big cause of our horrific turnover issues, and our leading scorer spent the entire offseason away from the team because he and his dipshit father thought he was too good for us. Taking all that into account, I struggle to put most of the blame on the coaching staff. They definitely deserve their share, but I'd say it's split 60-30-10 between the players, coaches, and Alabama basketball luck.

Sounds about right. Definitely ready to see a very different roster next season.

And yet, all it takes is two hot shooting performances and we have back to back sweet 16s. Never give up, never surrender!! (You know, until you see the same story playing out for the 14th time this season)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Part of me is thrilled that we are in the NCAA tourney back to back years for the first time since the early Gottfried years and another part of me just wants to burn this roster down completely and start over next year. I anticipate the off-season portal evaluations like I do my paycheck every two weeks. Here's to hoping we can land a transfer that can actually shoot/play defense.

I just hope the staff is learning some things about building via the portal because we're going to need it IMO. I think you need to target former top recruits who ended up in bad fits, good P-6 players who hit the portal after a coaching change or because the program is trash, and mid-major players that are elite athletes but who were either late bloomers or weren't blessed with the height to get them noticed by big time programs out of high school.

I’m having trouble laying the blame on Oats, because I’ve had this exact same end-of-year feeling under Avery, Grant, Gottfried, et al.

Different staffs, different schemes, different players. There really is no logical explanation.

Maybe when we build the new arena we need to have a cleansing ceremony on the Coleman site, because we have apparently offended the spirit of Chief Tuskaloosa or some deity that takes delight in our suffering.

I feel for you. My last trip to Tampa ended with Watson to Hunter on the pick play, and it was the only NC game I’ve been able to go to. Spending time with my son on the beach the next couple of days helped! Eat some good seafood by the beach

I think our current situation is different than what we dealt with under previous staffs. Gottfried had that Elite 8 run and just kinda went off the rails thinking he was totally untouchable, and that attitude seeped into the rest of the program. Grant wasn't willing to get his hands dirty in recruiting and ended up with a bunch of rosters where 10 or 11 guys were P-6 role players at best and mid-major bench guys at worst. He also almost never had us at the scholarship limit because he consistently failed to anticipate attrition. Avery is just a clueless hype man who could recruit decently but otherwise had absolutely no plan whatsoever.

Our current situation, from my perspective, is the result of a variety of mistakes in terms of personnel decisions plus some shitty luck. So I am concerned going forward, but I would not describe our issues as systemic the way the previous staffs' failings were.

Oats gets some blame simply because he’s the head coach. You can’t really coach leadership and effort though, and he had some bad luck as others have mentioned.

But I guess it’s encouraging we’re even having this discussion. As a probably 6/7 seed in the NCAA tourney. He’s raised the ceiling and floor for the program.

Super disappointing. You could kind of see it ending poorly when we kept dicking around in the 1H with missed FT's, turnovers and all the "easy" buckets we missed. Didn't make watching the collapse any easier though.

I'm not going to say that refs cost us the game by any means, because we still would have won that game as it was called if we just had a little more poise and made some shots we had no business missing. But my goodness, the whistles were atrocious. I don't know how it looked on tv, but the game was not called consistently at all.

Didn't feel like we had very many fans there and the crowd was dead for most of the night. Started getting louder in the 2H, but it felt like us vs the rest of the SEC at that point. Everyone was rooting for Vanderbilt except the Alabama fans.

Liam Robbins got booed out of the whole damn building when the replay showed him covering his head in the fetal position like he was about to get stomped out in a prison riot. A "pussy" chant broke out from somewhere behind me.

I talked to the Tennessee team for about 60 seconds, Plavsic is a very large man.

We played poorly enough to lose the game on our own but the officiating split between how the game was called on their end vs on our end didn't even look like the same sport.

Alabama Basketball since January 1st
> 9-10 (8-9)
> #39 Overall (#14 offense, #140 defense)
> #306 turnover rate
> #324 defensive rebounding rate
> #330 defensive free throw rate
> #329 3PT %

Honestly, I don't know how we have stayed around .500 the last 2.5 months. We're bottom 10% in the country in like 4 major categories.

So disappointed. Zero confidence going into next week. Ugh.

I hope Kentucky beats them today by 40. Not bitter at all.

I'm almost more upset about losing the tiebreaker in bar trivia last night than the game. Last night's loss was almost predictable at this point.

Oh well, just have to wait until Sunday.

Lunardi still has us as a 6 seed playing Michigan in the 1st round. Bad news Texas Tech would be the match-up in the 2nd.
