It's like I said a few weeks back, you either need a glue guy or a superstar to avoid the bad losses and we have neither. Ellis and Gary were supposed to be our glue guys and haven't been. Quinerly and JD were supposed to be the stars who put the team on their backs when things aren't going well and have been anything but. There's no anchor on this team that keeps everything steady by reliably providing a certain level of play every night. Our fortunes are directly tied to the performances we get from inconsistent players, which is why we can kick Gonzaga's teeth in and also lose to a team like UGA that might knocked out in the second round of the DII tournament.

It has been a fricking frustrating year but I still wouldn't trade it for anything we had under post-Elite 8 Gottfried, Grant, or Avery where this 17-10 record would put us on the bubble with no room for error instead of in the field as a 6 seed.
Hopefully JD comes back and Miller and Griffen are both the guys I think they are.

Yea......this just isn't that kind of team. The only game that still pisses me off is Georgia. That is an embarrassment.
I think that's where I'm at as well. Memphis has a ton of talent and we got them in a bad spot, Iona was aggravating but they're obviously good, and Missouri on the road always seems to be a battle. Georgia is just embarrassing.
I'm hoping to see a bit more leadership next season, will be interesting to see who steps up.

Speaking of Georgia ... I didn't realize they were 1-12 in the SEC.
And, of course, we're the one win they have.
Truly pathetic.

Amen - we will enter the tournament (an awesome thing by itself) with me thinking it's entirely reasonable for us to win a couple games. In a "frustrating" year. That's pretty damn awesome when you look at it from 1,000 feet. I had the exact opposite feeling everytime a CMG team went to the tournament, and the rest of the time we just didn't go at all.

Absolutely. With Bediako emerging, JD coming back and getting better/comfortable becomes a real big decision for how good we can be next year.

Especially since those two seem to have some good chemistry. Chuck plays much better on the offensive end with JD in the game than he does with JQ from what I have seen.

Before beating Alabama hoops shorthanded on Saturday, John Calipari showed Kentucky players last week’s viral clip of Nick Saban talking about Alabama’s backup receivers not taking advantage of their opportunities in CFP title
quote:
Calipari: “Nate [Oats] is an unbelievable coach. He does a great job. He’s turned that thing into a monster.”
But like his previous win over Alabama, Calipari said he prefers to shoot about 30% of shots from three, in contrast to Alabama’s style.
quote:
Calipari: “[People say], 'Well, we should take 60 percent from three and play all guards.' C’mon man. We’re at Kentucky. What are we playing for? We’re playing for March, to put ourselves in position to win national titles. It’s what we do here."

Is it?
UK has 1 title in the last 20 years with the #1 or #2 recruiting class every year.
In contrast, Villanova has 2 titles in the past 5 years with 2 recruiting classes in the top 10 in the last 20 years.

Cal’s full of shite. He loves saying he builds his teams for March but as you pointed out, with the talent level he has year after year, he underachieves in March.

Nate Oats did not offer an opening statement today for his Vanderbilt preview news conference, which is the first time I can remember that happening. Oats went on to say that he doesn’t care how talented players are offensively — he’s not going to play them if they can’t defend.
I love Nate saying this.
But Jusuan Holt is the exact player you are describing and you didn’t play him until down 16 with 10 mins left….that’s on you Nate

Nate throwing out quotes that are scary as hell for a team that only has 4 regular season games left. Quotes like this at the beginning of December are one thing, but not at the end of February.

It's kind of interesting he's so pissed after Saturday because while I didn't think we defended very well.....it certainly wasn't low effort or much different than some other games.
I just think they're lost at what to do with this bunch mentally and throwing shite at the wall, to be honest.

Wonder if any of the Football guys could come in and bring some toughness. I know, I haven’t seen them but it’d be nice to have them get some minutes.
There are no football guys on the team. Kool Aid practiced some last year and got a piece of the SEC championship net, maybe a ring too, but he never played. Terrion Arnold never came out. Also, because a guy plays football does not mean he is better than the basket ball players at basketball. And visa versa, JD Davison can run and jump, but does he understand our football offense well enough to play at wide receiver? Another issue with us is, as Oats said, in many schools, football ends before January, so guys can transition to basketball before conference season. But we always play into January. The days of Charlie Ward are likely over.

We have a lot of defensive bust. If I see one more miscommunication on a switch I’mma lose my damn mind.
JD has a mental bust all the damn time.

And we cut it to 7, and Keon stole the ball to cut it to 5, but turned it over. It's clear that he likes Holt. We will need multiple guys to guard Pippen Tuesday. Would not be surprised to see Holt get some of those minutes. Would be nice to get good JQ and good JD that game. Also would be nice to see us drive to the basket more than jack 40 3's.

I would put Holt or Keon on Pippen the whole game. We will probably do like we did Notae and Molinar. Face guard and deny the ball

Vandy leads the SEC in 3 pt % is what scares the heck out of me about tomorrow
Posted on 2/21/22 at 12:03 pm to mistaken4193
Get ready for Pippen to shoot 20 FTs
