Gottfried's only wins there were actually in 2005 and 2006.

He also never won in Nashville, but somehow won 2 in Rupp.

The one I remember most vividly was the 1st SEC title year. Last regular season game, Ole Miss was on the bubble, we'd clinched the league.

They beat the absolute living frick out of us. We were down like 25-4 to start and 25 at halftime.

It might have been the one you are thinking of.

Ah and the year before (the Gerald Wallace season), when we won all those games against the horrid non conference schedule, we needed to win over there to make the tournament late in the year and we lost by 35.

My man had some of the most random arse road wins. Remember the one in Starkville when they were in the Top 5 and we were absolutely collapsing? It was probably the most random win I can remember. I think that was the Elite 8 team wasn't it?

Edit - Yep, we had lost 6 of 7 and were 12-10 (4-7) and State was 21-1 and ranked #4.

One of those Rupp wins was against the Rondo Kentucky team that was a mess, I think. 2006?

I hate noon games more than any other time slot. Got one coming up on Saturday.

Yeah and I think the other one came against one of those teams where Tubby's talentless son was playing like 30 minutes per game.

2002 Gottfried beat UK in Rupp. Kennedy Winston had a big game. Forget who UK had, but it was a pretty big upset. Don’t think the UK team finished all that well, but that game was fairly early in the SEc schedule. Late January if I remember right.

That may have been a Tayshaun Prince UK team? I feel like he was their star player around that time.

Yeah, just looked it up and Prince was a senior that season. That UK was a little better than I remembered. Won regular season SEC, but got bounced by So Carolina their first game in the tourney. Lost to Maryland in Sweet 16.

They are pretty bad but yeah there’s no way I’d lay 6 tonight.

I don't get it either.
Seems like easy money to bet against Alabama on the road.

The light has to eventually turn on for this team…right?

I just watched Oats presser. He said 2 interesting things back to back that echo a lot of what we've all said.

quote:

"We were 2 for 23 on uncontested 3s (vs Kentucky). Now, did you get the right shots for the right guys? You know, I think we do got to get our better shooters more of those uncontested looks as much as possible. So, we're trying to tweak some things offensively to make we're getting the guys who should be taking those shots those shots."

I'm not sure there is a light to come on. If JQ hadn't turned back into a pumpkin we'd be a much better team than we are, but we'd still be heavily reliant on a couple of streaky players having good games to have much of a chance at winning. Ellis isn't going to sack up and accept any responsibility. Gurley is just a bust. JD isn't going to suddenly start to play like a one and done in mid-February after playing like an overmatched freshman for 25 games. It just kinda is what it is at this point. Try to win 4 more games and hope Shack goes on a two game heater in the tournament.

Yes. One of the issues right now.

Missing Primo Primo Primo. Did not expect him to leave.
Nimari , huge loss. Could have gotten us out of the shooting slump.
Tchikou: what the heck happened to him?? Such great expectations turned to zilch.

I think it's reasonable to expect us to see an uptick in outside shooting (1 guy get hot, others get not Antarctic ice cold).

But we've said that for 6 weeks and barely seen any change so who the frick knows.

Yeah I don't think it's reasonable to expect another 3-30 type shooting performance or anything, but I also don't think this team is capable of going on a real tear at this point. We are deficient in too many areas. Maybe Bediako's game against UK was a real breakout performance for him and he's a force the rest of the year. That would certainly go a long way towards stabilizing things, but we just can't keep getting these 3rd guy off the bench on a bad mid-major type performances from Quinerly. And unfortunately it's starting to look like what Quinerly did last February and March was nothing more than an extended hot streak. He has been an objectively bad player for the majority of his college career now.

Plain and simple, we have guys that play that need a red light on a 3. The analytics say 3s and shots at the rim, but for a guy like Rojas or Quinerly I’d wager the analytics say they’re better off taking mid range shots or shots at the rim.

Rojas needs a red light, JQ and JD need a yellow light- Miles, Shack, and Keon need green lights. Otherwise he needs to approve the open mid range jumper. One of those going in is better 10/10 times than a wide open 3 clanking off the back iron. We’ve got a good shooter and two decent ones. The other guys don’t need to be shooting 3s, those are just wasted possessions 8/10 times and the numbers back that up.
