What is the definition on "Far 2"?
Simply looking at the qualtities of shots by individual players: all the floaters JQ and Shack shoot from even a few feet out and baby hooks/bank shots in the lane Gary and Gurley shoot are all counted as "Far 2"

What about 7-1 rest of way (lose at UK) and win 1 or 2 in the SECT? That feels like the ceiling. What seed does that produce?
Posted on 2/8/22 at 5:50 pm to elposter
Probably 5 seed there, maybe 4 if teams fall.

Alabama Turns Focus Toward Wednesday Night’s Contest at Ole Miss
The Alabama men's basketball team is set to travel to Oxford, Miss., where the Crimson Tide will take on the Ole Miss Rebels Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network. It will be the lone meeting during the regular season between the two teams.
Alabama (14-9, 4-6 SEC) is coming off one of the toughest stretches played in college basketball in nearly 15 years having faced three consecutive teams that were ranked in the Associated Press Top-5. The Crimson Tide opened the stretch with a win over then-No. 4 Baylor (87-78) followed by losses at No. 1 Auburn on Feb. 1 (100-81) and most recently against then-No. 5 Kentucky at home last Saturday night (66-55). It was the first time since the 2008-09 season that any Division I team faced three-straight AP Top-5 teams (Rutgers).
Ole Miss (12-11, 3-7) has won three of its last five games entering Wednesday's home contest at The Pavilion where the Rebels have 10-4 record this season.

Kentucky (per Torvik)
- Far 2 - 217/545 (39.8%)
- 3PT - 148/419 (35.3%)
- 3PT - 1.06
- Far 2 - 0.80
How are they coming up with the 1.06 vs .80? Are they taking into account the offensive rebounds and scores on each of those possessions where the first shot is missed? I ask because based on the shooting stats, they've only scored 10 more points on 3pt shots vs Far 2.
For our stats, I wonder how many shots between 6-15 feet we've actually taken. I'm sure it's very few. The issue with that is that it's a large segment of the half court the opponent's defense doesn't have to defend. It allows them to press the 3pt line in certain areas and protect the rim in others.
That being said, if we have all 5 on the court that can shoot the three, it doesn't matter. But that's not happening this season. Maybe next year.

Not looking forward to playing Arkansas

But I am looking forward to hopefully having a home court environment one day that’s just half as good as Bud Walton Arena.

I think it’s actually best Arkansas won. They should be flat Saturday.

Yea. They do have a great home environment. And it's not just students. They have tons of adults getting into it also.

And play who exactly?
the guys at the end of the bench that has had little to no shot at playing this year. play the ones that aren't hurt. whether its 3 or 4 guys, set some folks down for a bit. theres no way they can shoot worse than the starters. so what do you have to lose?

3 * 35.3%
2 * 39.8%
The rest is just volume. That's kind of the point that Oats makes. You have to shoot a significantly better % from mid range than you do from 3 for it be a consistently better shot. If you are only shooting 4-5% more from the 4 feet closer and 1 less pt shot, you are leaving bread on the table.
Some guys do and that makes sense. Most don't, because 16 footers and 25 footers are very similar shots without much difference in necessary lift or setup. Oats has made it clear that if a guy makes a very high % of mid range shots he's totally fine with it.

Why? The guys have played hard as hell since the Georgia game. They just didn't make shots. You don't bench your entire 7 man rotation because they are ice cold.
Now, back around the Missouri game and Georgia? I might have agreed for a 5 minute stretch, just to prove a point. But dudes are playing hard recently, they just can't make shots.

Makes sense. Thank you.

We just gotta have a few guys start making shots.
Same ole story, I know, but at some point the ice has to thaw....at least for 1-2 guys. It doesn't have to turn into insane hot, just a little bit better. We aren't a great group of shooters but we aren't 330th in the country bad. JQ isn't a 42% 3PT guy like last year......but he ain't 22% either.
Hopefully tomorrow some guys start clicking. Prayers up.
PS - Also hopefully when/if we do thaw out we don't then forget how to play defense or dribble or offensive rebound or something.

I thought the effort the last three games was as good as it’s been all season. Just didn’t make shots. And Auburn and Kentucky are legit final four teams, not like we lost to just anybody.
