I've never understood the emphasis on the smaller arena anyway. I guess it could increase crowd noise and make it look more full on tv but my issues with Coleman have more to do with seating around the court and an updated look/feel.

If they built a 13,000 seat arena with students packed in right around the court, it'll be loud and hostile even if there are a couple thousand empty seats in all but a handful of games every year. Because yeah, the biggest issue with Coleman has never been the crowd size. It has always been the fact that if you're more than halfway up the stands along the sidelines you need fricking binoculars to watch the game.

Auburn is also reporting 9,121 attendance for every game. That can't be fannies in seats. 100% over 12 games would be very unlikely. Zero tickets went unused? nah.

re our bad seats on the side, I'm shocked nobody requests season tickets on the ends rather than up top on the sides. There's a ton behind me behind the goal that are not sold that are much lower than most of the side views.

That is selfishly my only concern about the smaller seating capacity.

That’s the (selfish) downside for me as well. It’s taken years to move down from the rafters and without joining one of the ‘premium seating’ clubs (which is in addition to Tide Pride and tickets), it’s back to the rafters if at all. I’m thinking the cost for a season will double (if not more). They aren’t spending $183 million on a new arena with 1/3 less capacity to lose money. Time will tell but I’m anticipating the worse for the average long-time ticket holders. It will probably be similar to what happened in football with the implementation of Tide Pride.

But enough of that, it will be good for the teams and is a few years away and we’ve got Kentucky to worry about for now.

Same - the endzone seats, to me, are 100x better than anything on the sides above the walking area. Anything in the top 1/3 of the sides is miserable.

Even the worst seats in the end are pretty close to the floor. I've never understood why those seem to be treated the same as the top 20 rows of the sides.

Yep - fanbase has always shown up for a basketball team that gives them even the smallest sliver of hope. There is no reason to fear having 6,000 people at an Alabama basketball game if things are going even halfway decent (which they have every season but 1 for the last 20).

I sort of assumed they would split the difference and go with around 12,000. Seems like a bit of an odd decision.

As things stand, I theoretically could go to more games than I do, so I guess I don't have a ton of room to complain. I prefer going to basketball games over football games though.

Kentucky Basketball Still Expecting to Travel to Tuscaloosa Despite Weather, Ice Issues

The Wildcats come into the matchup as Alabama's third straight top-five opponent.

not even close for me. I love football like we all do but the games are too much trouble/$. A hoops game is so much less effort and I enjoy it the same.

100% agree - my wife and I regularly say that the thing we miss most about being in school in Tuscaloosa is going to basketball games. It's just an incredibly enjoyable experience when your team is any good at all, and that was in old dumpy Coleman.

Maybe there's a plan to do away with the empty tide pride seats. Those 3,000 ghosts don't cheer loud anyway.

I don't know what you do about the big donors not showing up but it shouldn't be hard to figure out who they are. I see the same blocks of seats down there all the time empty.

It occurs in the seats on the player sideline much more than the media side.

Alabama Welcomes No. 5/7 Kentucky to Coleman Coliseum Saturday Night

Alabama will return home to take on No. 5/7 Kentucky on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN. It is the third consecutive top-5 ranked opponent for the Crimson Tide and the first of two games between the teams this year.

Alabama will play the return game in Lexington, Ky., in exactly two weeks, Feb. 19 inside Rupp Arena. That contest will be televised nationally on CBS with a noon CT (1 p.m. ET) tipoff.

Alabama will face its third-straight game against an AP Top-5 opponent, which is the first time it's occurred since the 2008-09 season when Rutgers played consecutive games against No. 1 North Carolina (12/28/08), No. 3 Pitt (12/31/08) and No. 2 UConn (1/3/09), losing all three contests. The Tide owns a 1-1 record in the stretch, defeating then-No. 4 Baylor (87-78) one week ago before dropping a road contest at No. 1 Auburn (100-81) last Tuesday night.

Any updates on Kentucky's travel situation? Sounded like they might have to come down tomorrow.

Just saw an article where Cal said they were leaving today. Didn't get any other details.

It seems like there could be a time limit on showing up to claim your seat. After the time limit, your seat becomes available.

I agree with you completely, but these are the kind of people who buy courtside season tickets they have no intention of using just to brag to their friends about having courtside seats. They will raise hell if they see some pleb sitting in their seats even if they are watching the fricking game on TV in their house 45 minutes away. I'm pretty sure this actually happened at either Auburn or LSU. Some rich a-hole saw someone sitting in his seats on TV and called the AD to complain.

Yes. I've been behind the goal since 1979 in Section J and now X, great seats, but above us there are plenty of seats. Problem is row right behind us is always either empty or filled with Auburn or Kentucky fans.

Yea it sucks - because there is a solid sized Alabama basketball fanbase that has truly cared and been invested through all sorts of shite the last 20+ years, and done it all while walking into a terrible arena every night to watch it.

And now the program is nationally relevant, the coach is great and they are building a great new arena..........and a lot of those folks aren't going to be able to have season tickets anymore AND are going to have to pay like $150 just to get in the door for a game against Missouri?

That just sucks.

I'm telling y'all now...that ain't gonna happen!
It makes NO sense, strategically nor financially!
Intelligent people within the administration won't let the University spend over 180 million dollars and allow a mistake like this happen.

Not being an OT baller and being able to buy my way to the top is gonna come back to probably bite me. I am hopeful that I’ll still be able to get the tickets though when the time comes even if it’s an upper deck corner.

Yea man. Between 3,000 allotted to the students, the surge in corporate entities that will want a piece of the shiny new arena, and a pretty sizable fanbase, there isn't gonna be much of a 10,000 seat arena to go around. And they won't give a rats arse about people like my dad that have paid for and faithfully attended the games in the same seats for 30+ years

Can't be too angry though when I've constantly bitched about Coleman for so long
