Agree with all of that. Miles needs to get starters minutes even if it's in the 6th man role.
Yeah I am baffled why Miles doesn't play more.
Our three weakest areas are:
1. Perimeter Defense - Miles is our longest, rangiest, most switchable perimeter defender at 6'7 with a huge wingspan.
2. Rebounding - Miles is 3rd in rebounds per 40 behind Bediako and Gary.
3. 3pt shooting - Miles is our 2nd best 3-point shooter at 36.2%, barely behind Shack at 36.6%.
- Note: Over the last 8 games where we are 3-5, Miles is 37.5% from 3 to lead the team. Shack is 25.4% over that same span.
Our longest guard, best rebounding guard, and best 3-point shooter over the last month is all the same person. And he is only playing 18 minutes a game.

It's not that he can't shoot. It's that he can't shoot right now. His shot looks bad mechanically. If he was Ray Allen in practice he'd definitely be playing more with how badly we have struggled from outside lately.

Is there a way to find out our defensive Efficiency on Opponents 1st shot of possession?

I think it was after Auburn, but some time recently in a press conference Oats mentioned that Miles had "decided to practice better" leading up to the game, so he got more PT.
He was also pretty candid about Miles being one of the best defenders they could match against Smith, and that he had taken it as a personal challenge.
Can't remember exactly how it was all stated, but I got the impression that Oats knows his capabilities, he just won't play him unless Miles commits more to something that he's apparently not doing.
Assuming that is indeed part of it, it continually amazes me when athletes at this level have to be told to put forth a better effort.

The thing I don’t understand about Miles is why he gets such a quick hook and Shack and Q can screw up continuously and seem to have no repercussions
Posted on 1/17/22 at 11:20 am to paperwasp
Oats has such a quick hook on Miles and honestly it kinda irks me.
And I think it effects Miles play. When he plays with confidence and no fear of Messing up he is really good

And yet he saw his minutes drop from 29 against Auburn to 19 against State despite being extremely efficient in those 19 minutes. I guess my issue with the idea that he's being lazy in practice is that if he's being consistently lazy in practice, why are you playing him for 19 minutes? Is 20+ minutes reserved for the guys who practice hard? If he's lazy, bench him until he gets his priorities right. If he's not lazy, play him 25-30 minutes a game because he has earned it on the court at this point.

The other thing is for a coach that openly relies on analytics, the advanced stats all show us being better with Miles on the floor, too. That in addition to the standard eye test weaknesses of perimeter defense, rebounding, and 3-point shooting, where Miles makes us better in all 3 categories.

I had a bad feeling about this year since the Shack fiasco in the off season. No hint of an understanding or appreciation for where this program was heading. Just another mercinary doing the NBA draft calculations.
And the guy is a selfish player. And not an NBA talent in my estimation.

A per-40 comparison since we started conference play:
Shack is playing 34.2 mpg and Miles is playing 20 mpg. Keep in mind what our team weaknesses are.

Just like you showing up with the same shite when someone doesn’t say something glowing about a player that looks like you.
Keep that same energy with Slade Boldin

I am relatively optimistic that we will right the ship. That, however, means a good but flawed (defense, rebounding) team - hard for the expectations to not have not been significantly lowered overall.
The PG rotation at the moment is an absolute disaster, but those guys are too talented for it to continue that way for the rest of the season (at least on the offensive end).
Anyway, I know he’s a former player now, but I continue to be blown away by Herb’s rookie season. Best defender on an NBA team, regularly playing 35 minutes a game, and his offense over the last few months is borderline shocking.
His splits for December: 12 games, 30.9 minutes a game, 10.8 ppg, 4.3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 blocks, 0.8 steals, 47.5 FG%, 41.7 3P%, 79.5 FT%
January: 8 games, 32.5 minutes, 12.6 ppg, 4.1 rebounds, 2.4, 2.1 steals, 0.8 blocks, 54.4 FG%, 45.5 3P%, 89.5 FT%.
Look at those shooting numbers! Nuts. 54.4/45.5/89.5 splits over the past 8 games.

I was but then the same issues keep happening game after game so what optimism I had is almost nonexistent at this point. Maybe the Monstars will give our team their talent back in time for the game Wednesday and that’ll change the trajectory of the season.

Most years he'd be getting hyped up as one of the best rookies in the league, but this rookie class has been nuts so he's still flying under the radar. His shot is just night and day compared to what it was a couple of years ago though. I can't imagine how much work he has put in to get to where he's at considering his shot was flat out broken prior to his senior year.

These next 3 are must win. Going into Baylor 14-6 would be huge. If we drop one of these 3 then I am officially nervous

These are the per 40 numbers for our guards through the 5 SEC games so far. The more I look at this, the more baffling it becomes for a team struggling with rebounding, defense, and 3-point shooting.
