Roll Tide guys.
Quality W no matter how you split it. Great effort to stay in it when things were off, and clutch in the final few minutes.
Not often my 19 yr old gets wrapped up in a game. She even put her phone down a time or two

Defensive rebounding was much better tonight.
Interesting stat. Had a few drinks tonight but damn it felt like UT was getting all kinds of 2nd and 3rd chances in the first half
Good win guys

I'm overall very encouraged after the 2nd half. We won't shoot like that again and the defense had like 4 stops in a row before we went on our run. I care about us caring defensively even when our shots aren't falling. While we didn't do that in the first half, I think we did a much better job in the 2nd half and really ramped it up the last 7-8 minutes or so.
Biggest source of encouragement as many have mentioned is Gurley having a breakout game. As Oats alluded to before this season, he's crucial to our success this year. Especially with how the Tchikou hype hasn't panned out for us.

Oats said Miles was available, but he played the guys he thought would give us the best chance to win. Said we’ll see what his practice habits are like this next week.

The effort was there in the end on defense and they did a good job rebounding. But the defensive possessions were still a bit wild and lacking. Tennessee got several wide open looks from 3 down the stretch. Mostly because we still can stop dribble penetration.
A conference win is a win though. Keep grinding and improving. Gurley stepping up is HUGE going forward.

If UT had Chandler and Fulk we lose. Still gotta play a lot better.
Maybe, but Zeigler played better tonight than Chandler has been. Not having Fulkerson really hurt them though. Of course, remember, we don't have Rojas now, and he could bang with Fulkerson. and we are without our best 3 point shooter from pre-season, Burnett, who was shooting 60% in practice.

Hard to say if we would have lost if UT was at full strength. They definitely would have been much better, but I'd wager we would have had a better showing as well.
I said this before the game, but playing a good team without their best spells out what a let down game looks like. Instead of beating the dead horse, teams often pity them.

I look at the other side coming together better when they are missing someone.
Who knows what would have happened?
Remember it wasn't that long ago Bama played 4 on 5 against Minnesota and almost pulled it off.

There were a couple mishaps, but we did a much better job of containing penetration hence the difference in our defensive rebounding issues. Zeigler was the only guy getting into the paint, but with his speed it's understandable. Still pissed that Tennessee held our help defenders with a "pin down" all game, and it didn't get called once.
The start to that 2nd half was the most one-sided officiating I've seen this season, and we were the home team. It's pretty telling when a coach that's almost averaging a technical a game didn't get called for one when he cussed out a ref during whole commercial break. At that point the officials even know they're screwing shite up.

It actually was down to 3v5 for the last 11 minutes, and we were down by 13 at that point. If we kept it 4v5, then we very well could have pulled it out. Sexton was great, but the other two weren't exactly the guys you wanted out there with him either.

Noah Gurley Explodes When Alabama Needed Him Most
The former second-team All-SoCon performer had his best game at the Capstone at the perfect time.
“Gurley posted a double-double in Alabama's 73-68 win over No. 14 Tennessee, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, both highs for Gurley in a Crimson Tide uniform.”
“….he shot 80% on 8-10 shots from the floor.”

Just glad we pulled it out - sitting here sweating through another COVID night of fever waves while watching us kick the ball around was not very enjoyable

What was the deal with Miles not playing last night?

Might be an ignorant question, but why is our student section not on the floor like Auburn’s?

Fulkerson and Chandlers replacements had 15pts and 11pts. That’s about what they would have done

Because for years, buying top tier basketball season tickets has been a way to accumulate lots of Tide Pride points, which gives you priority for football. So far too many court-side seats belong to rich FOGs who don't give a damn about basketball, but pay for it anyway to boost the football status.
It has always been a problem, but I think Avery Johnson was the first to call them out on it, publicly. Until we get the students surrounding the lower bowl, we will always have a subpar atmosphere.

For about 4 minutes then Tennessee would be in the bonus, and Rojas would be on the bench with 4 fouls!
