I too have been in tears, once.

My dad was on a motorcycle with my dog and crashed and died.

The police knocked on my door and I stepped on a Lego and then stubbed my toe on the sofa.

Tennessee is going to give us their best shot and like I said versus Auburn...Bama has to take a PUNCH or two but we must COUNTERPUNCH back.

I honestly believe that we are a very bad matchup for Tennessee and unlike Missouri...we can play defense when we are LOCKED IN

If they play good defense, hit free throws, and limit turnovers then I think Alabama wins.

They cannot afford to give Tennessee an advantage in freebie buckets and free throws. That's how Tennessee keeps pace with Alabama's offense unless the Vols have one of those "any given night" shooting streaks where the bucket is the size of the gulf for them.

Who chose this graphic. Number 4 seems like an odd choice.

Completely useless Bama stat for the day: In the two SEC contests Alabama has played using the Wilson EVO NXT basketball (@ Miss St., @ Auburn), Alabama is 2-0 with an average margin of victory of 8.5 points. In the 10 SEC contests played with a Nike Elite basketball, Alabama is 10-0 with an average margin of victory of 23 points.

Yeah. Both teams have a player wearing #1, and ours is Mark Sears.

My bet is that the NCAA tournament uses that bad basketball.

This is actually interesting. My blind ignorance would have led me to believe there was a standard ball for NCAA play, a la “The Duke” in the NFL. Obviously the measurements and the parameters are the same, but anyone that’s ever held a basketball can pick up on the subtle differences between brands, so it wouldn’t be absurd to think it affected our shooting… especially since we’re probably using the Nike ball at practice.

Wonder if we change practice balls when we know we’re playing with something else on the road?

Just something to think about, but not the best news I’ve seen today…

Correct, the official NCAA tournament ball is the Wilson EVO NXT.

There was a big discrepancy in AU's record between the balls last year as well. I remember seeing something about it at the time, but don't feel like digging back through Twitter trying to find it. Maybe AA7 knows and can shed some light.

Yeah this is actually a really interesting topic I stumbled upon when looking for a ball to purchase a few years ago. Basically in regular season NCAA contests, the home team picks the ball. For teams with Nike contracts (Bama and most of who we play), they're generally contractually required to use the Nike Elite Championship ball. Obviously this is also used in Nike tournaments like the PKI. Other teams generally pick the Wilson EVO NXT, because their sponsor generally doesn't make them use a specific ball in their contract and because it is the official NCAA tournament ball (replacing the Wilson Solution last year).

A few years ago there was a lot of diversity in ball choice, particularly in the Big 10. Wisconsin had a unique ball (Sterling) which was noticeably harder than most. ESPN had a good article on it. LINK

Each ball has a different feel so I'm sure it makes some difference, though likely very small. To me the EVO NXT is a little better ball overall than the Nike Elite (more grippy and better with sweat), though they're both nice.

What's sad is that the #1 will jinx us. Just 40 years of Bama basketball in me feels this way. Hopefully I'm wrong

Nope…not going to happen! The last time we took the post #1 ranking nose dive I was single, no kids, and pondering Mark Gottfried’s complete lack of coaching abilities while sitting in the student section. Let me be very, very clear…Oats makes mistakes here and there (mostly timeouts, lack of late game offense to defense substitutions, and occasionally seems to forget his plan on playing time), but HE IS NO MARK GOTTFRIED!! Our coach can coach…and it’s beautiful to watch!
