Yep - it was a horrid outing. They also made a bunch of shots they hadn't made in a month, so that compounded it a bit.

Yeah Mizzou is atrocious defensively as long as you can do a decent job of protecting the ball. They gamble on creating turnovers because they aren't very big or athletic outside of a couple of guys. If they just sat back and played straight up they'd get wrecked .

This is why the lack of adjustments was so frustrating. It's not like we were holding them to something like 1.03 PPP and just having some shitty luck of our own combined with a ref crew that was not doing us any favors. That was a game where there was literally nothing to lose by trying out some random defensive approaches to see if any of it would work. The worst thing we could have done was continuing to do the same thing, which is exactly what we did.

I’m not sure shot quality can determine how closely contested a shot was
This is a excellent point about Shot Quality stats.
The SQ stats are a great tool --and I agree with SOG et al that our defense "ranking" is probably somewhere in the middle of the #38 SQ and #4 efficiency.
However, just looking at the SQ stats posted here from the Oklahoma game reveal where they can get off track:
Almost all of Oklahoma's 3pt attempts were wide open and the majority of their shots at the rim uncontested. On the hand, over half our 3s were hurried, forced and/or contested.
That the SQ numbers had us getting equal or even better shots means some qualifiers like "contested", "hurried", "forced" weren't that prominent in the data.

if your team lives and dies on the three point shot is this really considered blue colar. Blue colar to me would be running an offense that runs through a big man who is battling down low.

It’s nap time grandpa
ETA: To indulge you, where you shoot the ball on the court has nothing to do with how tough you are, how hard you work, battle, etc.

I agree that our style of play is not blue collar. I wish we had a better nickname or other gimmick for the team.

I’ve always hated this phrase. Every basketball team lives and dies on their shooting. Our shots just happen to be from three.
I’d much rather live and die by the three than live and die by mid range jumpers.

You're right. Our weakness is against teams that play a physical brand of basketball.
Baylor won it all with this style of play.
But it's not necessarily the most dominant style. Otherwise you'd see big 10 teams being more successful. Baylor could get physical, but were also #1 in the country from 3 (41.7%).
Here's their KenPom numbers. They were good at a lot of things.

so to indulge you was there a blue collar mentality at OK?

My son is more familiar with the style of play in today’s time, but he said the style of play in the nba now is 3’s and dunks. Not really a lot of midrange shots.

No. They got their shite pushed in in every facet.

but mid range jumpers have a higher percentage of being made. Some of you might recall when big shot Bob and Benoit and others were on the team they made a high number of jump shots from the elbow and the middle of the free throw area. Wimp had true blue collar teams.

Y'all are looking way too deep into something that is just meant to promote and reward hustle plays that are not talent related. You don't have to be a good basketball player to take a charge or dive for a loose ball.
