It’s not a big enough difference to make up for the value. You have to shoot 50% from mid range to match a 33% 3 point shooter.

Sure if mid range is wide open, I want certain players to take it. Otherwise it’s a bad shot.

Oats already has the same number of conference titles and has made it as far in the tournament.

Wimp, to his credit, was a great conference tournament coach, but I think Oats will prove to be better overall.

It’s also just a different era of basketball. Three point shooting is easier now because you can’t defend on the perimeter like in the past.

Sure, but I’m not gonna go around in a blue collar basketball shirt for a team that plays a very modern, analytic-based style.

I’m fine with them using it if it gets the players going, but it’s not a great nickname.

It's always struck me that the blue collar name is more to emphasize it to the players.

Oats could have also emphasized that point by giving the "hard hat" award for the last two games to Miss St and Oklahoma since they earned it.

I'm pretty optimistic that this team learns from last week's letdown in intensity though.

I agree that our style of play is not blue collar.

We out toughed Houston on the road , they're probably the most “blue collar” playing team in the country. Probably the only three games we have been out toughed all year are the last two games and the Uconn game. 90% of you fans that just started posting in here for the first time all season last week sound like ya’ll just started watching this team last week. That’s probably not a coincidence.

We've seen exactly the types of mid range jumpers taken by the right people the last few games with JQ and Miller.

JQ has taken 2 perfect ones where he stopped short of a wild take, had nobody near him, took his time and knocked down a high percentage 10 footer in a good rhythm. That is an acceptable midrange.

What isn't is basically any midrange that is off the dribble and defended, coming off a pick at 16 feet, etc.

Eh, Ritter has been in here complaining with us since the late Grant/early Avery days. He's not a johnny come lately.

Guys I might not be here much longer. If Saban hires Grantham I will get myself banned.

Unless i'm just making this up, i'm pretty sure it has been stated several times since Oats arrived that the hard hat award is not given out in losses.

Excited for the game tomorrow. Very interested to see how we come out and play. I expect another sloppy half for some reason but Bama will pull out the W.

Also interested to see the starting lineup with Bradley’s struggles.

I predict Sears will have a bounce back game.

Plus a long rebound from a 3-point shot favors the offense.

I’m not saying the team isn’t tough. I’m saying I have a hard time identifying a team that plays a modern, fast tempo, rim and 3 style as “blue collar basketball.”

Like I said, I’m fine with the staff using it if it works on the players. But I think if you asked a random basketball fan what does “blue collar basketball” look like, they would probably agree with the original poster that it’s big men banging down low.

I’m glad we don’t play that way for what it’s worth. All I’m saying is I don’t like the nickname because I don’t think it fits the team.

Exactly, the longer rebounds are just as significant as the extra point meaning 33% = 50%.

Just watching this team, we must average around 5 possessions a game where a long rebound off a missed three turns into a made three or a layup follow. That's pretty demoralizing to a defense as well.

If you're getting longer rebounds on mid-range jumpers then you definitely don't need those guys shooting them.
