Pilgrim on the KSR site is just dropping the things he hears in their coaching search names thread

Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but can say with confidence he wants it. I'd prioritize him over the Mark Popes and Travis Fords of the world and not think twice about it. Still below the tier of Hurley, Oats, Drew, Donovan, Wright, Stevens, Pearl, etc., but someone who would win big here.

I think we've known this one for years LOL

Absolutely. He'd walk on Legos to Lexington. But his name is definitely picking up as a guy who has made it clear he wants it.

But that's a guaranteed yes if Mitch Barnhart wants to go down that road.

Nothing about Oats

Would Kentucky cut ties with a coach that's at the end his career for another coach that's the same exact age? Would assume they'd go for someone younger that can be their long-term solution.

Chris Beard parlaying a DV arrest into one mediocre season at Ole Miss and then landing the Kentucky job all in like 18 months would have to be the greatest example of failing upwards since Kiffen went from Raiders disaster, to one 7 win season at UTk, to USC in the same time frame.

Will Wade would be a good hire for Bama. Oats owns him. He’s like Cal, can get good players in but not a great coach.

Just take a loan for it. Inflation will mitigate borrowing costs.

Beard is an example of why you shouldn't jump at the first open job.

In which instance? Beard's issue with his off the court stuff would be a problem regardless of whether he'd gone to Ole Miss or stayed out of coaching. And if Kentucky is fine with that, then he's going there. Being at Ole Miss won't stop it.

Was it Beard who turned out the victim was lying after he was fired or was I thinking of someone else?

Nil has taken over the facilities race.

This is why, IMHO, Cal felt he needed to move, Basketball doesn't bring in as much as football, but UK still get a large check from the SEC each year. But they do not have Bama & Texas type monies. UK was used to Cal brining in 5 of the top 10 but how? I think coach Cal (and the Kansas/UNC types) were buying players via giving money to AAU coaches who passed it on to the players, we all knew that was going on. Well, NIL killed that trick !!

So, Cal is like, I am only great when I can get all the best players, with the AAU hustle gone, Cal needs a rich sugar daddy, meet Tyson Foods in Arkansas, their owner will put up the money, coach Cal thinks he can then turn back the clock, hell maybe he can, but plyers may take less and stay closer to home as long as they are getting bank.

This NIL is going to eventually create bidding wars and destroy both CFB and CBB.

As per Hurley, he has yet to play a 1 or 2 seed in those 10 plus games, thats freak luck.

Billy Donovan to UK would be a homerun. He's got the NBA chops and contacts and college jewelry.
Let's hope it's Drew.

I am fine with other SEC basketball programs being really good. The fight in basketball is in March. Having a loaded conference does nothing but help you if you are also a great program.

Football? Yea, it matters. You have to win all/almost all of your games (though less now). Basketball? You just have to be prepared come March.

So you are saying there's no chance that Hurley leaves uconn for a 3 million dollar raise (using your 10 million number. Would probably be more since you included the bonus in the 7 million number). No chance?

Sure there is a chance, but Hurley has UCONN in dynasty mode. Unless he has NBA aspirations why would he leave one blue blood for another? Money? Sure money is nice, but UK is a complete rebuild when Cal takes his entire class to Fayetteville. UCONN is a machine right now.

If UK hired Bruce Pearl, it's because 4-5 coaches told UK No which isn't going to happen. Same with Barnes or anybody else in the SEC not named Oats.

Question: who wins more games next year?
Arky or UK?

Cal is about to show UK they fired a HOF coach.

Wrong question for UK leadership.

Correct question: who is more likely to get UK to their next F4, Cal or the guy after Cal?

KY leadership coming out looking like gold in this one. KY fans were about make Barnhart walk the plank, now he’s the hero that saved the University $33mm and might bring Billy D back to UK (while burdening a top conference foe with an expensive 1st weekend exit coach and possibly raiding another top conference foe’s coach if it’s not BillyD).

Robot’s right, KY smelling like roses and Arky’s holding the bag right now. Cal’s got his work cut out to change that narrative and I’m not sure he has it in him.
