Cal’s got his work cut out to change that narrative and I’m not sure he has it in him.

Something tells me this is going to breathe new life into Cal. Shooters shoot. Cal is a HOFer. He's not done.
If UK can pull Donovan, obviously it's a homerun. But if he says No and Drew says No and Oats says No...

Gonna turn hilarious quickly.

Yea I don't really see a huge downside here for Arkansas. If Cal doesn't get a second wind, they don't have the same eternal deal to deal with that Kentucky did. They can just move on. The downside to firing a college basketball coach these days is pretty minimal outside of money. Rosters change so much each year that you really don't risk a ton.

The thing will Cal is I'm just not sure he's very good at coaching basketball in 2024. Maybe those things the last 5 years were due to lazy coaching, but it just seemed like Kentucky wasn't as well prepared or crisp at what they did as other teams were.

I kinda wanna see pitino at uk for the Louisville melt.

Coach cal is closing in on 1k wins.

Not a fan of this coach but never would I Have guessed we would get coach cal and our boosters offering to make huge donations to the nil.

Like I said on sec rant, im not expecting championships but using cal for a place holder for the next coach. Keeping Arkansas respectable.

I don't think he is. There are so many programs that are able to load up on good, experienced college players with pro futures overseas these days via NIL and the portal that it's basically impossible to overwhelm them with a bunch of 18/19 year olds with draft lottery potential like it was circa 2009-2018. Unless he suddenly makes some wholesale changes to his recruiting strategy I bet his results at Arkansas will be similar or worse to the last few years at Kentucky. His biggest saving grace is that the one and done recruiting plan will never fall victim to doubts about his longevity.

This year notwithstanding, I thought Muss did much better than “respectable” and that Ark could build on it. This just feels like an expensive step backwards (not huge step, but still backwards).

The %s of coaches working out in their new jobs when their former employer celebrates them leaving seems pretty low. Maybe I’m missing something though, or maybe Cal is one of the outliers.

I know as a Bama fan, I was a lot more worried about Muss overall than Cal. Now I’m more worried about KY than Ark, and it doesn’t even really matter who they get. That doesn’t mean Ark can’t be successful with Cal, it just doesn’t hit the top 2-3 concerns anymore unless he proves otherwise (which will take more than just a really good roster).

I am very confident Nate is not going anywhere. One good thing to come of this is that we are raising a lot of new NIL $$

SEC title? I'd be shocked if he could make a final four unless Arkansas boosters really go hard into NIL slush fund.

Calipari is a questionable in game coach, rarely plays to his players strengths and has been completely unable to adopt to the modern game.

Despite having the #1 3FG% offense in the country, they ranked #179 Nationally in % of shots that are 3FGA

This was the highest he's ever ranked in 3FGA% and first time he broke into the top 273 since 2011

Totally understand and I agree with everything you said. Muss was one deep run away from being fired here.

Last 2 years 14-22 in conference. 38-31 overall.

Kentucky wanted him gone and I understand but at the same time you have to hire someone just as good or better than him.

Theres only 7 active coaches with a national championship.

Are you as happy to have that short clown out of the SEC as I am? Never could stand Muss.

You guys definitely needed a change. I just thought you’d be able to get someone with a better trend/performance over the past 5 years.

Messing up the Beard hire probably didn’t help.

This was just posted on Kentuckys on3 board by Matt Jones, the main guy there. Take it fwiw

quote:

There's a lot of chatter out there that maybe Calipari is trying to find a way to stay. It sounds insane I know, but that is making its way around the UK world. I have nothing from the school but this is picking up steam and is some messaging coming from Calipari related sources. IT would explain why we have heard nothing and the public appearance today with no comment. Stay tuned...
