We need to pump the brakes on Sheridan.
He’s been fired twice after one season (Indiana OC & South Florida passing cooridinator).
I’d argue he got wrapped up in the debacle that was Willie Taggert at USF and that the IU situation was largely due to losing Penix and his backup QB to injuries, but let’s not start thinking he’s some finished product prodigy as a play caller.
He has a solid pedigree, has worked with DeBoer in the past and is pretty well thought of as a QB coach, but this is going to be a wait and see situation with him IMO.
Objectively from a resume standpoint he’d be in the bottom three of any coordinator we hired under Saban at the time they were hired with Applewhite and Nussmeier.
Doesn’t mean it won’t work out, just means we need to let it play out.
Luckily the head coach is an offensive guy, so it's not as big a gamble.

I agree that it’s like Saban hiring an unproven DC (cough *Golding*), but it does mean one more thing DeBoer will likely have to be heavily hands on with whereas last year with Grubb or with Saban when we had Sark, Kiffin, etc they could basically turnover the keys and focus on other portions of the program.
Again, they’ve worked together before and it’s DeBoers system just like it was always Saban’s defense, Im just saying we should probably expect hiccups with Milroe, a new system and a young OC.
I have very high hopes for Wommack on that side of the ball. If we find some pass rushers to replace what we lost and figure out the pieces in the secondary it would make a world of difference if we have end up with growing pains on offense.
Most interesting preseason in a long, long time. I’m personally just not expecting a finished product given what looks on paper like one of the hardest schedules we’ve had in awhile.

I imagine Bryan Ellis will play a pretty significant role in helping Shepherd run the offense. He killed it at Georgia Southern.
quote:
Ellis served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Georgia Southern Eagles for the last two seasons. Ellis came to Statesboro after working with a record-setting offense at Western Kentucky the previous three seasons.
In 2023, the Eagles were once again a high-flying offense as they finished in the top 30 nationally in completion percentage and passing offense. Davis Brin set a new school record for completion percentage in a season and wide receiver Khaleb Hood left Statesboro owning just about every record in the book for a receiver.
The 2022 season was a record-breaking one for Ellis as he transformed the Eagle offense into an aerial threat. Georgia Southern broke just about every passing record under all-conference quarterback Kyle Vantreese, who finished the year with 4,253 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. Three receivers had over 700 yards apiece and the ground game churned out 23 touchdowns.

I got a feeling Sheridan was hired with the understanding that he’s running DeBoers offense. He’s probably just calling the plays.

He killed it at WKU, too.
I was serious when I said he'd be our next OC (or be someone else's very, very soon).

Saban speaks at Nick's kids giveaway luncheon
Around the 1:40 mark. Nick's guard reaches in front of Nick and takes a microphone. Nevermind he just laid it down

KDB is great and I respect him, but yeah, it's not going to be the same and I think many people will be less compelled to tune in to everything he says.
LMAO...If DeBoer wins a national Championship within 1-3 years people will listen to him like the Second Coming.
And in 20 years or so, hopefully, we'll be saying that the new guy just doesn't communicate like DeBoer did.

it not like he did a bad job in 2020, a covid shortened season with QB injuries. They went 6-2 in the 8 games they played, beat Penn St, Michigan, michigan state, wisconsin, Rutegers, and Maryland. lost to ohio state but scored 35 and lost by 1 TD, and lost to ole miss by 6. They scored 28 points per game, which wasnt much off what they did under deboer the previous year and is great for indiana. Its bizarre he got fired after one season where he beat both michigan teams, wisconsin, penn st, and only lost to ohio st by 7

So far today there has been only players and coaches interviews. No practice videos have been uploaded that I'm aware of.

He was not fired until 2021. A scapegoat for the bad season. They had a ton of injuries that season.

Pretty standard for FSU openers
Both FSU/LSU match ups were Sunday games I believe
I do see where it’s listed as Aug 30th in other places though
