I think DeBoer is going to have to push Grubb out and find a new coordinator after this season. I agree with people who have said that we actually had a better offense in 2024 but the QB couldn't execute the passing attack well enough. I'd sorta be alright with Grubb taking another opportunity and giving Sheridan another crack at it.
Don't think there is any chance that happens. Grubb is to DeBoer as Bobby Williams was to Nick. Only way he is leaving is if he takes another gig.

Yesssss. So much this. What is our offense's foundation? Where do we make our money? Ground and pound between the tackles? Play action vertical? Off tackle? RPO? I could give him a bit of a pass last year because the run game just wasn't going to function no matter what personnel combinations or plays we tried, but we appear to have a competent run game this season and he's still not using it to start developing an actual offense.

UGA went 7-7 on fourth downs, basically running slants every fourth down against cover 1 robber with a wide open option
We kept trying to score, and did a dumb double reverse at one point, but that comeback was largely on Kane being stagnant with his play calling and being like 99% cover 1 robber the whole game.

Yeah that all sounds like Grubb to a (two sizes too small) T. Just a random assortment of plays that'll look cool if they work and cost you a possession if they don't. He's just playing Madden with actual humans running the plays and if cutting him loose is where DeBoer draws the line then it'll ultimately be his downfall. They've got the defense right. They're getting their evals right. Letting the ship sink because of one guy would be unbelievably stupid.

And the problem is he's just good enough at cooking with random plays that it's somewhat defensible in the short term ot be like "yea, it's annoying, but remember xxxx?". It's why he's so good on 4th downs and 2 point plays - he can draw up a hell of a random play for a specific spot against a specific coverage. But you can't run an entire game that way.

The irony is he just saw the recipe for success that second half. He will shake all that off and go back to randomness against FSU.
I think that is one of the reason KDB needs KR to be able to settle and make the reads because if he doesn't? We're in for a long season

I'm sure his efforts to do it anyway are a big reason why we end up running up against the playclock so often. There's no separate list of our 5-10 best plays to start hammering a defense with when we get them on their heels with the creative shite. He just keeps trying to call the creative shite and bogs down the drive. I hate the lack of tempo in our offense. There's a reason Ty running the 2 minute drill last year had us looking our most efficient.

I mean, I'm going to avoid any mind reading, but I will say that the guy has absolutely no feel for gameflow or iterating based on what is (and isn't) working.
He can draw up some nice play designs though (which we usually can't execute

I'd actually say that Kiffin and Grubb are more similar than one might think. I'd say Kiffin is also "calls plays" rather than "runs an offense" type of offensive coordinator.
The big thing that changed Kiffin, for the better, while in Tuscaloosa is he stopped treating the run game like it was the OC's equivalent of eating your vegetables and would commit to it. Remember, he was the passing game coordinator for Carroll in SoCal. I don't think he really learned how to package a run game until he got to Tuscaloosa.

I'd agree, although I think he's (Kiffin, that is) improved over time. He did that annoying thing where he'd have us constantly throwing horizontally with no blocking in front of our targets at the beginning of games to spread the defense out or whatever, but that was pretty much the only semblance of a master plan he had while he was here

Grubb calls plays like its a video game.

I dug a little deeper:
In 2017 at Fresno State when DeBoer was OC and Grubb the run game coordinator they had three roughly 500-yard backs.
Next year under the same arrangement they had a roughly 750-yard back, a 450-yard back and a couple of roughly 300-yard backs.
In 2019 when DeBoer went to Indiana and Grubb stayed at Fresno as OC, they had a 900-yard back, a 350-yard back and a couple of 300-yard or so backs.
Throwing out 2020 … in 2021 with DeBoer as HC and Grubb as OC they had a couple of 700-yard backs.
I posted the Washington numbers earlier.
Now those were all certainly way pass-oriented teams and that’s not enough rushing to satisfy the folks here who’d like to bring back the Wishbone, but it sure seems like the running backs were actually participants in the offense,
What changed in Grubb’s brain?

I think this thought prevails with college coaches.

On that 3rd and 20+ to start a game with a RS FR QB on the road for the first time, I think I’m the kind of OC who calls a draw play and hopes we help the punter out a tad. Of course, the fans would hate me too but I wouldn’t give up a pick six at the start of the game either.

People don't love you for the bad situations you keep them out of unfortunately.

shite man, seems my life in IT and software development has prepared me psychologically speaking for calling an offense in college.
