Listened to a dude last night on Sirius XM and he 100% believes our running game issues are due to the OL not fitting what DeBoer and Grubb want size and athletic wise.

He felt the scheme is great and that we'd start to see the running game pick up once we cycle through the guys Saban recruited.

I think our ideal OL will be bigger than what they ran at UDub but still substantially smaller at G-C-G because they will be pulling and cross blocking so much. The tackles will probably be 315-320 max. IOL probably 300 max.

Much like the super-secret blitz packages that we've been waiting for the right time to reveal to the world, I have a feeling the unleashing of AK Dear might be falling into the same lore.

We want unicorns... Great runners, great blockers, etc... all in one person. truth is we probably need to use multiple backs more often. It doesn't matter unless the OC adapts, which he hasn't seemed to be doing in the last few games.

The staff has rotated a ton of players this year at both offense and defense.

Yeah this is why I don’t think he’s ready for whatever reason. The coaching staff this year has shown they are willing to play whoever is best

The more likely reality is all our RBs are either not ready/hurt or just not good enough to make up for atrocious blocking

But if its true what I'm hearing, that Dear is a cross between a Barry Sanders and a Jim Brown, .but without the blocking skills, then maybe its about damn time he get some carries.

Where in the world are you hearing that? That's ridiculous on the face of it.

I read sarcasm into his post. Granted not always easy to tell in this forum or in general these days.

Pretty sure he had an affair with a booster’s wife.

My two cents as someone who is pretty versed in O line play…most of our running woes are O line related.

I only have one cent as I am not an OL expert but I have seen JAM many times not following his blockers. Holes/lanes have been there for an easy 2 or 3 yards maybe more and he hesitates, dances, or tries to create a bigger play and very seldom works out.

I play cards with two guys that are scouts and they say the same thing. He looks like he wants to be Barry Sanders, but he is not built for it. They said the reason he plays the most is he is the best pass blocker option in the backfield. Again, just their opinion.

Would love to hire Pittman as OL coach along with Pruitt for D.

According to ESPN, Dear is 6th on the RB depth chart in carries at just 7.

Hill is 3rd at 29 and has overperformed the most with what he's been given, IMO.

Our staff isn't helping the RBs with the play calls. It's obvious 8 games into the season our OL cannot create running lanes. The staff should recognize this and call more plays to what we can do. They rarely run anything outside except those jet sweeps to Germie.

LONG LIVE THE TOSS SWEEP!!

The more replays i watch, the more i see Formby just whiff blocking on the edge. Seriously giving Chris Capps a run for WOAT at RT.

Im not sure why everyone is extrapolating a single run

All it takes is one run to see that he's the fastest, most athletically gifted back on the team, and he's big.

All the other backs ran against the same team, and they didn't break off a 50 yard TD run. I doubt any of them have the speed to do so.

To this day he has the longest run of the season, and with only 1 TD he ranks above Kevin Riley and isn't far behind the others statistically.

Our running game is absolutely horrendous, so yeah it makes sense why the fans are wanting to see more from the only back who's made a good running play this season.
The fact that he's 6th string makes no sense whatsoever.

School’s like ND have great OLs the last few years yet here we are stuck with ones that get their shite pushed in on run blocking

Which is weird because back in 2012 and 2020 it was the reverse

ND always has a good offensive line. Even in 2012. We just had a steamroller on both sides of the ball back then. But ND and Wisconsin always have some big siberian cave monsters up front.
