Our pass rush would DESTROY their QB(s) and the 2016 team could score 2 or 3 times on NOTs.

While I agree, let's not omit what LSU could do defensively either. Also consider Jalen averaged at least 2 turnovers a game, so they would certainly have a chance too.

It'd be a great game.

Funny how a single game can change perspective on a player rather than an entire body of work.

Jake Coker was considered a liability as a QB prior to the Clemson game.

Lane Kiffin wouldn’t run the ball we have Sark we were glad he was gone because he wouldn’t run the ball.

Greg McElroy was a liability as QB prior to the Florida seccg get excited about him then he has one of the worst games as a QB in the NC game vs Texas.

Coker was very good for a lot more than the Clemson game. His 2nd half of 2015 is one of the greatest stretches of QB play in Alabama history.

From the Texas A&M game to the Clemson game (9 games)
160/221 (72%)
10 TDs / 1 INT
8.50 YPA

Even more specifically his last 5 games (CSU, AU, FLA, MSU, Clemson)
87/120 (73%)
9 TD / 0 INT
9.66 YPA

Those last 4 games were against 4 Top 20 defenses and he/we absolutely shredded them. He had an unbelievable 2nd half of the season.

I've never seen a more impressive turnaround by a QB. He was a deer in the headlights for a good portion of the first half of the season. Tough as nails, but he just could not seem to get a handle on things.

The last half of the season, though, especially against Auburn and Michigan State ... just amazing.

He just kept grinding and it finally clicked. Kiffin also figured out what he could do with him and had basically the GOAT situation for him. Workhorse RB, explosive WR/TE, big armed QB.

Once Kiffin figured out how to use his toys and Coker got comfortable we went ham.

I've said this before but the TD pass to Stewart against Auburn might've been the most athletic play I've ever seen from an Alabama QB.

All Coker needed was reps. He spent 2-3 seasons splitting reps. Once he was able to settle in and not worry about keeping his job, he was able to gain confidence. Really wish we could've seen him for one more season.

Wasn’t he playing with broken ribs?

On a side note:
Bama haters always bring up how “if McCoy wasn’t hurt Texas would’ve crushed Bama”, but they also completely ignore/forget that McElroy was hurt too. Even a 100 more yards out of him could’ve led to a few more scoring drives.

Not only that, but we had lost Hightower for the year. Everyone seems to forget that.

My personal pick for GOAT team, 2001 Miami, had Ken Dorsey at QB. Not exactly Manning back there, but look at what they had top to bottom.

Impressive personnel, but a body of work average relative to that. So in my opinion, not the best ever.

Yea my overall point was the body of work, not necessarily the talent on the roster.

That is absolutely untrue.

There are only two other teams that could even be mentioned as GOAT. As JJ27 said, 2001 Miami had Ken Dorsey.

1995 Nebraska had Tommie Frazier, who, despite his reputation was purely one dimensional (and Hurts bettered him both passing and rushing). Comparing those seasons, Jalen outrushed Frazier by 350 yards and outpassed him by 1,400 yards. Hurts had 36 TDs to Frazier's 31.

How many games did both play though? 12 vs 15? Obviously Hurts still could’ve had a better season. Just pointing out that he played 3 more games.

It will always hurt a little.

Hurt's TD run towards the end should have been his Tua moment if the defense could have just held on, one last time.

That topic has been beaten to death. A lot of us think it was the failure of the offense to sustain drives, resulting in the defense having to play 99 snaps, that cost us the game. That was a great defense that year and it's a damn shame we didn't win that game.

Simian, if that Alabama team would have been the greatest of all time had they not lost to Clemson, as you suggest, I guess that means the Clemson team was the greatest of all time. I don't think so.

First, I clearly said IF they'd won.

Second, your assertion is simplistic. We both know that's not how football works. If Pacific had managed to beat Nebraska in 1995 (NU only beat them by 4 points more than UA beat UF in the SECCG), would you consider them GOAT? Or Florida had won in the NCG, for that matter? No. If that had happened, Nebraska would be forgotten in the GOAT discussion of course (even though they were), but UF would not be GOAT.

25% more games with 50% more rushing yards and 100% more passing yards. Still a better season for Hurts. Plus, two of Hurts' three extra games relative to Frazier, (SECCG and first round playoff) were against top 5 teams.

NU played 4 ranked teams, 1 in the top 5. UA played 8 ranked teams, 3 in the top 5.

It's only been a year, but even Bama fans have already forgotten how good that team was over the course of 15 games. One single play different, and none of those guys would argue against the GOAT claim, even giving up what would have been 28 points to a great Clemson team.

A close game and a single play can make a hell of a difference.

And despite every team knowing this, they still ran the frick over everyone.

No. It's exactly that we remember how good that team could have been, and especially how good the defense actually was, which is why so many of us are still extremely disappointed about losing that game. We also remember the lack of a real passing game, which is why there is no way it would be considered the best of all time. The 2011 Alabama team, another very good defense, but also a good and balanced offense, would beat the 2016 team more often than not.

I know all the stats. I also watched every game and know the passing game was mostly jet sweeps and quick outs, and built mostly against teams without a good defense.
