Does that team have the greatest combination of collection of wins and margins of victory of any team in CFB history?

If we'd held on we would have (rankings at end of year) :

Beat #2 Clemson by 3-7 (N)
Beat #3 USC by 42 (N)
Beat #4 Washington by 17 (N)
Beat #13 LSU by 10 (A)
Beat #14 Florida by 38 (N)
Beat #22 Tennessee by 39 (A)
Beat #23 Western Kentucky by 28 (H)
Beat #24 Auburn by 18 (H)

Beat 8 win A&M by 19
Beat 7 win Arkansas 19
Beat 7 win Kentucky 28
Beat 6 win Mississippi State by 48

13 of our 15 wins would have been against bowl teams. 8 Top 25 wins, 3 Top 4 wins, 2 wins over P5 Conference Champs, 6 Top 25 wins away from home. Only one of them would have been a win by less than 10 points (assuming holding on vs Clemson).

Obviously we didn't so it's moot, but it is the offseason and we kind of moved on from it so quickly I never really truly examined what an incredible season that was. And with a very raw freshman QB to top it all off.

Elite Defense, rivaled '11 in many ways.. a shame they didn't go out with a 'ship.

I understand Coker wasn't the best QB at times, but hypothetically speaking, he returns that year, that team is unquestionably one of the most dominant teams we've seen. They stomped pretty much everyone with a QB limited in the passing game and a OC that was inconsistent at times.

LSU was close, but you wonder how much different that game is with a QB that can stretch the field and Bo getting into rhythm, against a team that could only muster 125 yards at home.

That front 7 was just nasty. The points off turnovers was something you expected nearly every game too.

Yea - if we had Coker back picking up where he left off in 2015 that's an all-time, maybe the all-time, great team.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts.............

There is no doubt in my mind that if we had Coker for another year we clown Clemson in that game.

They were way more proven then that 2011 defense. Plus they scored points of their own.

If Lane were on the sidelines vs Clemson I think we win. Just saying. He really knew how to get the most out of Jalen

The Lane prior to him getting the FAU job wins the game.

The Lane that coached against Washington doesn't do any better than Sark did.

Pretty sure that team had one of the highest elo ratings ever at one point during the season. Someone had an ELO system going but I don't remember the who or the the exact formula.

Here's a link. LINK /

It's a shame the QB situation was what it was that year.

I have said it in other threads. If we beat Clemson, that team is legitimately the GOAT.

Because of that last play, though, people will forget how good that team actually was. One play is the difference in the greatest ever, and a fleeting memory.

And that was after the SECCG.

Like I said. One play away from GOAT. Period.

The defense was in the same conversation with the 2011 Bama and 2011 LSU defenses, but man that loss fricked up the awesomeness of it all.

I know this may be getting into the deep-end of hypothetical talk, but imagine if the 2016 team had Deshaun Watson at QB.

I still think the 2016 team was the best though.

Without the Rematch, LSU beats the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Sugar Bowl-Bama if not in the title game-and probably destroys Oklahoma State in the title game. Instead that team laid the biggest egg ever and is never even thought of anymore in these discussions. Quite the turnaround.

2 amazing defenses in that 2011 game. Against each other, each D played 9 periods of football, and allowed a combined 1 touchdown.

Yep. The same thing will happen to 2016 Bama.

That offense was so limited because of the qb, in spite of the misleading statistics, that there is no way it would "legitimately" be the greatest of all time.

2016 Alabama

Our pass rush would DESTROY their QB(s) and the 2016 team could score 2 or 3 times on NOTs.

I was going to say this very thing. Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson off the edge would have put Jordan Jefferson in the hospital that night.
