Birmingham-Southern trajectory?

Huh. Seems like a bad time to piss off most of the voters in Alabama and half your alumni by canceling a TPUSA event for "security concerns."

Years ago it was predicted that 25 percent of colleges would cease to exist due to bad fiscal management and the like.

To be fair, they just not have the money to pay their security overtime.

It boggles my mind how bloated the bureaucracy has gotten at most schools, including UA. They have Deans for EVERYTHING nowadays. “Dean of Paper Clips”. “Dean of Blind Asian Lesbian Students”. “Dean for Parking Lot Issues”.

TPUSA will fund the security themselves.
Any entity claiming security concerns is lying, and we all know it.

UAB's football program should be the next in state program to die.

Lol, their college campus security isn't really known for being adequate. Anyone claiming they are is lying, and we all know it

That's nice. Has nothing to do with what I said.

Except the entire security concerns thing, sure

The college's security capabilities are not the only security capabilities available. Pretending not to know this makes you look like a fool or a liar.

If they can't handle the most basic obligations - safety and security of the students and faculty - then close down the entire operation.

Surprising that Montevallo even had a swimming program.
It seems like swimming and diving programs have been the most cut programs out of all college sports going back to the 90's. I was friends with some folks on the swimming teams that had all made their way to Bama because Villanova, UCLA and Virginia Tech had just cut their programs.
I know that Michigan State, Arizona State, Iowa, Dartmouth, East Carolina and UConn just recently cancelled their programs as well. I think less than 1/3 of D1 teams carry a swimming and diving program now.
It's always been a Title IX issue for the mens side, but besides that, is it pool facility and maintenance, team size or something else that makes it a challenge to operate?

My guess is the scholarships and travel expenses would be the primary expenses. Moar can probably contribute a more educated perspective as to where the costs come in by having these programs.

I've known a few UAB alums who honest to God thought that Bama football should subsidize UAB football.
I looked at them and told them maybe UAB fans could actually start going to their games. Half the time, when it shows the stands for their games, it looks like at most, there's 1000 people in the stands.

I would think location had a big part in Bham Southern's closure.
If you dont have the big dog--football, its hard to pay for the other sports.

Okay, I got an idea. End UAB as a separate university so UAT can claim the medical school and hospital research to become one of the top public research universities. The UAB alums can just root for the Tide then. The separation of these institutions hurts our overall research perception because you basically cannot be elite in research without medicine + hospital but they lack what UA brings to the table in other disciplines.
