I wonder if it will do anything remotely like what has happened to Bama.

If there is a mass exodus from Michigan there will definitely be an examination of this 30-day window in the summer. Michigan taking a proven head coach from another P5 school would also add to the chaos.

Are you sure he’s expected to leave?

I don’t think they’ll lose guys quite like we did. There are a few factors that have caused the mass exodus.

1. We recruit VERY nationally.
2. We had no plan.
3. The rest of the country had an opportunity to bring Alabama to its knees and is taking full advantage, as they should. At no point in history has hated program like Alabama, at the height of its power, been vulnerable to what we’re seeing.

I think it is foregone conclusion they promote the OC.

But would imagine they will see some turmoil as well

The difference with Michigan is that if they promote their OC to HC and he then retains much of their coaching staff they should be able to mitigate some of the turnover.

No because their AD will hire a guy who has stepped foot in the state of Michigan and already has relationships with the players.

I think that he will ret an interview but Michigan just won the NC. They aren't going to replace Harbaugh with someone that doesn't have previous head coaching experience. I just don't see that happening.

What kind of plan were you expecting there to be? Greg Byrne went out and hired one of the best available coaches on the market in less than 48 hours from Saban's retirement announcement. These players decided they were there to play for Saban and now that Saban is no longer the coach they don't want anything to do with The University of Alabama.

I think him stepping up during the Harbaugh suspensions will carry a lot of weight.

Not if they hire Lane Kiffin. Mississippi starts with an M just like Michigan. Both universities are UofM. That synergy would allow Michigan to keep all of their players

What makes you think we had no plan? We named a HC within a couple of days. What plan prevents players from entering the portal to start the bidding? Michigan probably won't have nearly the problems we have, because we had more 5 Star players on our roster than their entire conference has. Their players aren't as attractive targets.

Promoting the OC can be a disaster...he at the end of the day is a TEMP.

First loss he takes the good will is all gone.

Michigan doesn't have a roster loaded with 5 stars...so you won't see teams willing to pay to get a lot of these kids to transfer. Also they'll promote their DC which will keep a lot these kids locked in.

They'll lose some guys but it won't be close to what's happening here.

If osu can promote Day then Michigsn can do the same. Bama is the only program that is allergic to internal hires.

Question I've had but didn't want to start a new thread. But my understanding is that Spring Semester for Alabama has already started and I would imagine that a lot of other schools have already started/start by next week as well. For those entering the portal and transferring now, how are they getting eligible for school/Spring ball if they weren't registered by start of Spring classes? I never did it but are they able to do the "second term" Spring thing?

We had no one on staff to promote. In a perfect world it would have been timed as to where a Sark or Kirby could have simply been elevated to HC and we'd have very little attrition.

Unfortunately, not a perfect world.

No because they will probably ask the coach to keep the key staff members in place as part of his hiring process if they don't hire the OC Sherrone.

Who were we going to promote? Rees?

If we had promoted from within the complaints would have been, "Why didn't we go out and get the best available candidate? Why did we just make the easy hire?" Well, we went out and got arguably the best available candidate, and now the complaints are, "Why did we hire someone with no connections to the program?" People are going to be upset no matter what because change is scary. Let's just wait and let the man coach a game or two before we proclaim his tenure a failure. There is no guarantee that all of the players who have transferred out wouldn't have done the same no matter who we hired or how connected to the program they were.
