Clearly the threat of Milroe running the ball opened up BIG lanes for Gibbs. He didn't have close to that much room to run in any other game this season.

Or it could be the fact that Arkansas had the #123 ranked defense in college football this year. There were only 8 teams in all FBS that were worse. They ranked #104 in rush defense. Regardless of who was running the ball we were going to gauge them.

I find it concerning that he could only generate 64 yards passing against the #118 ranked pass defense.

So you are pinging Milroe because the defense sucked? interesting.

No, I'm dinging him because he struggled to keep up with a team that only scored 26 points. That's not a huge hurdle in today's game. And we know with Golding at DC there are going to be lapses and teams are going to score points. If he would have been the starter we end up in a dogfight with a very, very bad football team just like the A&M game.

Look, totally agree that the guy is total athletic freak, and I really do wish him all the success in the world. Problem is that he is currently so limited, not just passing, but seeing the field, reading defenses and running an offense that even a monumental leap in development, he'll still barely be serviceable as a passer. And if you can't at least threaten a team with the pass, those rushing yards will quickly disappear, especially once some team get film on you.

Believe me, I'd love to be wrong and will happily eat crow if he does develop, but a big part of my concern now, is who's on staff that can develop him? I don't have faith that we're necessarily competent on that front.

A more reliable gauge of Milroe’s current ability and impact on the game is the next week after Arkansas start against the Aggies.
First half he did ok running the ball. Second half after A&M adjusted, it was a disaster. A&M knew he was absolutely no threat throwing the ball. They knew he was slow seeing the field and slow pulling the trigger. They spied him and every-time he tried to run he was stopped, usually for a loss and sometimes with a fumble.
Other teams would feast on this and unless he gets comfortable in the pocket, gets better at seeing the field, reading the defense and improves mechanics, his time as a Bama QB will be short lived.

I'm not saying Milroe is going to do this but Jalen could barely throw his freshman year (and for several years after that) and if he wasn't hurt would have had a really good shot at being the literal NFL MVP (still might win anyway).

Can we give Milroe a minute to figure it out please?

Jalen's passing developed dramatically from soph to junior year. No way he stayed in the pocket and made those downfield throws against UGA in the SECCG as a sophomore.

I'm pretty convinced that our 2018 season wouldn't have been much different had Jalen started in 2018 instead of Tua, except who knows how the Clemson game would have turned out. Not saying that he should've started over Tua, but I think that Jalen was officially "ready" in 2018.

That's not all. Alex Mortensen, the analyst and behind-the-scenes quarterback guru who spent nine seasons at Alabama, left in December to join the new staff at UAB. On Monday, Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of Mortensen, "He was at Alabama behind all the offenses -- worked with Bill O'Brien, worked with Sark, was there when I was there. I have a lot of respect for Alex."

Simpson redshirted last year so correct me if I'm wrong but he's not eligible for a redshirt unless it's a medical redshirt.

Saban will stay with Milroe until he loses a game next year as well.

He's won the locker room. Winning games is secondary.

Jesus dude, what fricking world did I just wake up in? Winning games used to win the locker room. Meritocracy is jettisoned in Alabama football as it has been in every other place, I guess.

Bama locker room has reverted to dysfunctional shula days where there was favoritism if all reports are true

Can you not see the irony in this?

He has won a game and he has actually performed the best.

If winning games was secondary we would be starting Buchner

This melt reminds me of Blake Barnett where most on this forum were losing their minds about why he wasn't starting and thought he was the best thing ever

No, Milroe, Lonergan, then Sayin when he learns the offense and gets some experience. Simpson and Buchner transfer.
