Mac looked terrible yesterday and is the clear number 3.

Perhaps, but he looked much better than Hurts in the spring scrimmage.

It's a pretty good bet that Hurts will transfer at least after he graduates in December. He will probably not want to play more than 4 games, and if he were to be forced to his attitude may not be at all good. We may need Mac Jones.

You do, too. This is a message board for discussion

Yeah, but when you have the same handful of shithead trolls starting the same worn out, overcooked "discussion" on a daily basis so they can stir the pot and talk shite about one particular player it gets really old really fast.

At this point I’d even say Mac needs more reps than Hurts. Hurts is going to be the back-up and might play 4 games next season then he’s gone. Mac will be our back-up for the next 4 seasons. It’s more important to have Mac ready to go than Jalen.

Plus, if Tua goes down, Mac can be put in, he can throw a football, the play calling doesn’t change much, & our elite WRs can still make plays. If Jalen’s put in, QB run right is about all we got.

You're basing what Mac can do off of what? I'm no Jalen fan but if Tua goes down Halen is the one we need in this year.

That was back in April. This is the middle of August. Players tend to improve/regress from the end of spring training to the beginning of fall camp.

Mac Jones, being younger and less practice, would probably have more of an upside in that regard than Jalen Hurts, who hasn't seemed to improve in 2+ years.

That, and I'm not sure how Jones could have been much worse than 0 tds and 3 interceptions yesterday.

Saban will do what he thinks he needs to do.

He doesn’t need advice from a message board.

I’m removing the “Insufferable Twat” title I bestowed upon prevatt a few weeks ago and giving it to you.

Congratulations. We’re all so very proud.

I agree with your point that sooner we build an identity the better. However, consider the following points:

1.) Identity can/always has been built throughout the year. Granted, I'd argue last year our Identity was fairly soft. We still have plenty of time. It doesn't have to be solid by game 1.

2.) It's about managing personalities, etc. As on-lookers, who the hell knows what happens behind the scenes. Saban needs to try and keep both Tua and Jalen on the roster.

But to your point; you can also say lose the QB battle now, compared to later and Jalen could still transfer.

I don’t need to base anything with Jalen though, I already know. With the 5-Star studs around him at every position, he’s athletic enough to run right everytime, and beat 95% of the trash opponents we play in the regular season. We’ll come up short in the big games though, and Hurts will be exposed. Why run into a wall head first if you already know it’s coming ahead of time? Give Mac a chance and give this team a chance to beat the good Ds

we have a lot of practices before we have to get in sync. These QB's have been throwing to the receivers all summer

I agree. I mean when has Saban ever tipped his hat and what he was going to do or who was going to play. Hence why the majority of practices are closed.

We tend to have some of the worst posters when threads like this get started. No one on here knows what Saban is thinking. He may have a starter picked but does not get paid to inform anyone on this board how he is managing his roster.

From another board:
quote:

IMO, I watched a playoff team go at it this afternoon. Here’s why...

* Our defense is plain nasty. Only depth at ILB worries me, but Jalen Moody took a big step forward today, with run stuffs, an interception and 2 pass breakups. Our secondary is outstanding. Savion Smith is a stud. Surtain and Jobe were with the 2s and we never skipped a beat. The Dline was as usual, but Phidarion Mathis and Johnny Dwight added to a dominating performance led by Davis, Buggs and QMan.

* We have a kicking game. Yes, we have a kicking game! Austin Jones had a solid day with a 48 yard FG (missed from 50) and he and Bulovus consistently kicked off deep in end zone. Jones gets great height in his kicks. The biggest improvement from spring to now, IMO, is from punter Skyler DeLong. BIG day. His backup from Huntsville nailed a few too. The main return men were Diggs and Waddle—damn he’s electric! No telling how many blocks Anoma will have in his career.

* We have no QB debate on offense. When Tua is in his groove, he may be unstoppable. Tua to Ruggs — OMG! However, Hurts has improved A LOT imo — this Enos guy is for real. Hurts still struggles going down field, but those 5 yard behind the receiver throws never occurred today. His short game was pretty damn good. Mac Jones had a decent day. The new guy from Arkansas had a tough day.

* OLline — Most of our OLine looked good today, but Jonah Williams was flat out outstanding! He taught young Anoma a few lessons today. Piersbacher’s snaps were right on the numbers.

* WRs had a good day, especially Ruggs. He’s an All American in waiting. The TEs were so so receiving, but Hentges has improved his hands and still a good blocker.

* Injuries — Jamey Mosley was out with a shoulder. I sat with Stephon Wynn’s parents for a while and said 4-6 weeks for Stephon. They think a certain RB from IMG will wear Crimson next year, too. No injuries in today’s scrimmage, but damn it was hot.
quote:

Newcomers: Surtain is as good as advertised. Moody really surprised me. Austin Jones can kick.

Returnees: Jonah and Ruggs were outstanding. Johnny Dwight surprised me. Mathis too. Jerry Jeudy was very impressive.
quote:

So hold up a second. Slugger is singing praises for tua and hurts and saying how much hurts has improved, but another guy said tua had 4 tds and hurts had 3 picks, to which slugger had no comment. Slugger, not busting balls here and I appreciate any info, but can you please explain how exactly that the 2 qbs compared. Was it 4 tds vs 3 ints?

Read what I said about throwing behind receivers. Didn’t happen. One pic was poor throw...others were tipped. Hell, the JUCO DL returned a tipped interception 40+ yards for a TD. He looks like a stump — but stumps are faster. We will win another Natty with Tua, but we “could” win one with Hurts or Jones too.

Man this offense is going to light it up as long as they stay focused.

Disclaimer: Tua will probably throw a few more picks than we'd like. He hasn't started a game yet and there will be young mistakes, just like Jalen had in 2016. And he's more willing to throw downfield and to guys who are more tightly covered, so just expect more INTs. The pay off is a more consistent and productive offense.

Yeah, this has gotta be it, but Jalen already knows he's the backup. I think he'd actually be better off if this silly pretend competition was over as well. He even said "I wish the coaches were bold enough to tell me the truth" He's not leaving. He's staying to graduate.

At what point is getting the first team offense reps more important than Jalen's potential ill feelings?

To all of those people constantly saying "we'll be fine" "Saban knows what he's doing"

I know we'll be fine, and so does Saban. It just irritates me that we could be getting so much better right now. We could be building this offense around Tua's abilities. I'm sure everyone on the team is a little confused as to why Saban keeps pretending he doesn't know who the better QB is
