BJ just didn't have a position, he was an athlete playing QB at Vigor IIRC.

He wasn't a natural passcatcher or route runner, and a lot of athletes sink when you take the ball out of their hands and put them on defense.

I know he played it a little in HS, but I remember ArDarius Stewart absolutely hating playing DB in the AL/MS game practices. His words and body language were LOUD, he wanted to be a playmaker. He had some hiccups at Bama, worked through some drops and had to learn to run routes to become a playmaker.

I think had Scott had stuck it out, he would have found a role too.

I think he would have as well. Saban really wanted him to play in the secondary, like really, really wanted him at corner. He wanted to be a WR and couldn't break through. By the time he made the move back to defense, Saban had recruited a killer secondary and he was too far behind to see the field. He ended up transferring to South Alabama to finish out his career. Ended up at safety as well, just like Saban had wanted. I wonder what would have happened to his career had he made the move to the secondary and committed to it. He'd probably have recently wrapped up an NFL career.

BJ Scott was probably the biggest recruit for Saban in that first class. He might as well have been our recruiting coordinator. And he was highly rated, so all the recruits respected him.

I’m always leery of recruits labeled as “athletes”. Many never find a comfortable position. I think Kristian Storey (portaled out) and Emanuel Henderson are in that boat.

Interesting seeing as he was the #1 rated RB per Wiltfong at 24/7 in high school. Seems to fit the “athlete” model.

SI also listed him as one of “the top athletes and RB”, but I’m sure that you are correct.

Maybe Wiltfong should have told Saban this, because Saban wanted him to be a WR. Have you let the coaching staff know they need to check with recruiting services to see what roles the players should be in?

Maybe Saban didn't take advantage of that $1 deal on3 ran last year. Could have cleared up this whole issue.

Chadarius Townsend was another “athlete” that never found a position.
