Alabama running back Roydell Williams has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @247sports.

Ran for 560 yards this season.

Zenitz Tweet

Thought this warranted its own thread.

You and TideSaint need to decide which thread to keep

Was it suggested by Saban that he leave? Interesting move. Maybe he just felt the pressure from the talent behind him.

After just announcing he was coming back, I think this is the only scenario after individual meetings

You're probably right. If that's true then I don't need to hear people complaining about Saban 'not doing what needs to be done'. Roydell has been a true UA guy, and did everything he could to help this team win. The talent behind him has pushed this issue, and Saban had the stones to be honest with him. Best of luck to him, wherever he ends up

Kinda sucks for Roydell, but it's what the team needs.

Sorry! Is there an official portal thread tracking the people leaving? If so, happy to post there!

So why not ride Haynes and Jam down the stretch coach !

Haynes probably told them if they intended to play that seniority shite with him he was gone, and the coaches finally made a decision to play the better player, and told Roy the snaps wouldnt be there

No. When I refreshed the page, TideSaint and you both had a thread about this. I tried to post in his, and he deleted it. So here I am

Did I miss McClellan's announcement? Is he returning, transferring, or going to the NFL?

You didn't miss anything, it hasn't been announced.

He was getting passed. It’s Jam and Haynes time.

It does makes me sad. I really like Roydell. He played his arse off for us.

There it is.

This is obviously Nick and the staff telling him to move on. This kid bleeds crimson. I could be wrong, though.

If we did tell him to move on I really hate it for him even though this is good news for us. The Covid year really screwing up roster management.

A guy like Roydell should finish as a Bama player only but it just won't work out in this current era. Hopefully he can make some scratch with NIL.

I wanted this selfishly. Ready for the young talent to step up.

If Roydell stayed then we were bound to lose someone like Young. Couldn't let that happen.

As horrible as this sounds... we just need to get Jace out of their way now

It’s not like they are being told to leave. Saban just being honest with players about PT and let them make the decision based off good honest feedback

I absolutely hate it too. He LOVES this team and the school. Sad to see him go.

Another sign that Daniel Hill is going to choose Alabama tomorrow at the all star game.

I appreciate both McClellan and Williams giving their all for Bama but I get the impression Coach Saban has this “agreement” with senior starters that they won’t lose their starting jobs to younger players. Even though they both “could return”, I feel like CNS has kept up his end of the deal.

I wish Roydell well but I think it’s kind of a pipe dream to think he’s going to make it to the NFL. Sometimes the mind is willing but the body simply can’t do it anymore. I may be wrong and would be happy to be proven wrong but I don’t think so.

Even with the guys behind me potentially passing him up next year, he could have always stayed for depth. He would have been good for 4-5 carries a game, more if it is a blowout. I get it though, a player wants to play and not seat on the bench.
