Without a doubt, Few is in the absolute best place in the entire country, maybe with exception to Coach K.
He'll never have to face the wrath of angry fans, he's endeared, I could go on. I just can't get any better than that

Based on everything that I’ve been told, I do not expect Alabama to go the mid-major route for this hire.

Steve Forbes is a mid-major.

Steve Prohm is not.

The Rick Pitino to Alabama rumors have some real life behind them. Sources around the CBB community have informed me the smoke is real. Deal could be coming soon! #RollTide #MarchMadness? ? #AlabamaMBK

Yeah I'm about to start 15 twitter accounts just to see how many of the tweets can end up here.

That's a high risk there. Bama could lock itself into a coach that might not deliver. Very expensive.

Forbes prob. makes adjustments in games. Prohm prob. doesn't. We already did the Mark Gotfired thing.

Its interesting majority of us not on same page in coach we desire leading our team.
Forbes, Pitino, Prohm, Matta, & Donavon main suspects.
Whomever it is will certainly be a step up from what we've endured.

Most people on this site have their sights set for the high heavens. It will be a huge let down when none of those 5 names are announced.

If a winner at the P5 level is making themselves available to a non blueblood, that should raise some red flags

With the TV money available in every conference now, every AD can afford to match massive offers if they want to

Bama would either be overpaying in a "this is too stupid to match" way or the coach has baggage/overrated and AD knows it

Donovan and Pitino won’t take the Bama job IMO. Too many bigger jobs out there . Not sure where the smoke is of Donovan wanting out of the NBA is anyway

Who should we be mentioning?

Pitino and Matta are big names but big names that currently do not have a job. Not unrealistic at all. Forbes? Prohm? One is a mid major while the other went to school here. Not seeing how those are exactly out of our league either.

Billy D? Yea. That one is probably not very realistic.

We’ll see how it shakes out but it’s not like most of us are talking about Self, Few or Cal.

From Cecil's article today:

quote:

Byrne does have a track record for making swift, decisive hires, both at Alabama (baseball coach Brad Bohannon) and at his previous jobs at Arizona and Mississippi State. He will probably play his cards close to the vest, with no long public courtship like the Alabama/Gregg Marshall negotiations four years ago. He won’t take the easy route if he thinks another course is better, at least judging from his decision to bypass Ron Polk’s chosen successor for the baseball job at MSU to hire John Cohen instead.

Aiming high sometimes means you miss. Alabama fans don’t like to hear it but some candidates may be happy where they are. But Byrne doesn’t seem like a defeatist, and I don’t think he will sell the potential for Alabama basketball short as he looks to find the man to break the four-year cycle.

Byrne is a ninja. Not much will leak prior to the hire, IMO.
