I like to ignore the only actual evidence I have in favor of hopes and dreams.

I KNOW Milroe has some serious deficiencies, but I like his smile so I'm ignoring them and thinking the other three 4/5 star qb's on the roster will probably be worse.

In the end, the coaches will do the evaluating, and maybe Milroe IS the best option. But, as a fan with limited access, I'm going to make my guesses based on what I've seen so far. And I struggle to believe that Jalen is going to be the best option with all these guys basically having a clean slate and a brand new play book.

How do we know this? It's not exactly unprecedented for someone to improve from year to year.

It's sarcasm. Many posters on this board believe those sentiments though.

Got to mention, I don't know how the QB room will shake out for Spring but there is one thing I love about Milroe...

With the kind of exodus we were having, Jalen never wavered. Kudos to the others, they could have pulled a Julian Sayin. But Jalen in particular, could have made a killing on the open market. I'm proud of the kids' commitment.

Well maybe Milroe will be better when our center isnt giving him the ball by rolling it like he is bowling.

Ah, yes, Milroe fans' favorite scapegoat.

It wouldn't have hurt to have better snaps. But, running the full playbook, and having the qb recognize blitzes, call out protections (rather than having the coaches trying to do it from the sideline, or having an already struggling center do it), throwing the ball behind the blitz, not holding the ball for 4+ seconds every snap so that the o-line has no chance, or throwing the ball away to avoid a 15 yard sack, or seeing the wide open guy, or anticipating and throwing on time to where a receiver was going to be open MIGHT have been even more helpful. But what do I know. Milroe was 6th or something in the Heisman voting, so it was probably just those few snaps that were his problem.

DeBear speaking at the Senior Bowl:

Coach, why did you bring Austin Mack to Alabama ?

"His skill set, all the tools he brings, the arm talent,... he has a really great head on his shoulders, for him to do what he did last year, and reclassify and come in as young as he was and learn the offense as fast as anyone I've ever seen. He just has to continue to develop, and he sees the challenge ahead as an opportunity, and hes excited about this opportunity, and he's excited to be here, and we are excited to have him here."

First, I think Milroe might actually improve with the QB whisperer on campus.

Second, Mack may beat out Jalen without controversy because Mack ... let me put it this way ... no one would bench Jalen for Mack because they are a bigot. So the coach can do what needs to be done either way.

The thing about Milroe is, while good, he was overhyped by the media to the point where benching him would smell funny, if you get my drift. So let's just say fortune has smiled on us and may the best man win.

He wasn't great last year. The Milroe-is-awesome-because-he-made-some-big-plays-and-muh-heisman-odds people are worse than those who are pointing out his deficiencies.

Id bet anything Milroe has a fantastic season this year. This will be his third year that he has started games, he will be far better coached this season and he will be in a much superior offense

I dont think players care very much about that shite. Players on offense want the guy who can run the offense the best and get them the ball. Thats why they wanted some short Hawaiian pudgy kid over the very jacked, and very likeable brother from Texas.

As long as we put the best player on the field and and use every resource available to develop them I could care less who is at QB.

Ryan Williams :

"Im looking forward to working with Austin Mack. He has experience watching a national championship caliber team, (QB) and he can throw the ball really well. I think with our connection we'll score a lot of Touchdowns and Win A Lot of Games."

I'm telling yall don't sleep on Mack. DeBear, Grubb, Penix, and now Ryan Williams is gushing over Austin Mack. He could have obviously said Milroe. He could have said Simpson. He could have said Lonergan,... but he didn't. He said he's already got a connection with Austin Mack.

Ryan Williams' Wide Receiver coach seemingly told 24/7 Sports that Austin Mack was next in line when telling the outlet about Williams' recruiting visit:

"They sat down with Austin Mack and Ryan together. They kind of told them, once Jalen graduates, that they would be the faces of the program. He told them that they could throw for a bunch of yards and both of them decided to come there."

I don't think they can afford for Mack to beat out Jalen before fall camp ends, and especially not in spring. Should he do that, you could potentially see Jalen, Simpson, and Lonergan transfer out leaving just Mack and having to scramble for a portal backup. I'm sure Simpson wouldn't stay, and doubt Lonergan would.

This is silly.

Why would this be silly? If it was apparent after spring that a redshirt freshman was the starter, why would Jalen or Simpson stay? They both want to be backups to an underclassman? I would understand possibly Lonergan staying, but not the other two. I could also understand Lonergan leaving.

If they are truly introducing Mack as the future face of the program, I don't think Simpson will stay after spring. And he shouldn't if that's the case. This is his third year. If he has NFL aspirations, he needs to find a starting spot soon.

Does the portal open in the fall ?

I think the next big round of transfers is in the spring.

I'd think you'd want to name a QB, and see who goes so you can backfill with what is available in the portal in the spring.

It doesn't matter if Milroe or Mack get named starter. Either one will likely send Simpson and Longergan into the portal.

These guys are all shooting for the job this year. That's why I say just get it over with, and let the Mack era begin. You can't dodge the transfer debacle either way
