Courtesy of BOL:

The guys they covered combined in total for 1 catch for 11 yards in 86 snaps.

With studs like this on the outside what the hell are we doing at Safety and LB?

To be fair, I'm not sure they were targeted very much by design. Kiffin knew our biggest issues were at LB and safety in pass coverage, so he focused on those areas.

Yeah, Jobe and Surtain might be targeted 40 times this season between the two of them. There's no need to throw their way and risk the incompletion when you can just throw over the middle for an uncontested 60 yard TD.

Todd Blackledge said our Def line is the big problem. He said the front 4 cannot contain the run, and the linebackers are trying to look for the run and follow the backs slipping out into the backfield.

2-gap mush rush sux, imo. Better for DLs to stunt/rush through a gap for penetration and disruption of blocking assignments and plays behind los, w/ ILBs filling the other gaps. If a RB (or QB) cuts into a gap opened by a stunt he should be quickly greeted by an ILB. Those gaps also create blitz lanes for ILBs to shoot through. Charlie Strong has lots of 3-3-5 stunting expertise, that we should be utilizing, imo. Stunting is what MO did to defend our running game pretty well. 2-gap mush rushing mostly accomplishes keeping the DLs occupied in a stalemate with the OL -- very few QB pressures, sacks or TFLs by DL. Good strong OLs can lock onto mush-rushing DLs.

I pretty much agree with this. D-line is making things very difficult for the linebackers (who also aren't playing well).

Yep, they've been fine. Unfortunately it literally does not matter.

I noticed during the game we never saw Surtain and Jobe much in action except for the time Jobe was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and the first down Surtain allowed. They were always throwing against the safeties and LBs. It was definitely by Kiffin design,he knew he could collect all his candy without troubling our corners.

Jobe was frustrated and I get it. The rest of the defense is getting shredded.

Another pretty amazing stat from the game-per jox this morning. Our offense gained every possible yard they could pick up, except 41 yards. A punt from the 40, and the fumble on the 1.

. We have depth and size I don’t get why we are having this issue.

Since we supposedly train our players at different positions , against teams constantly hurting us with the pass , I would like for them to maybe try Banks or Turnage or JAD to cover sometimes . Wouldn’t work probably against physical running teams like UGA but might against MSU and the matchups that were getting exploited Saturday night

Yeah, no need to challenge Surtain when you can just STEAL yards all night against our LBs.

I mentioned this after the game - it is all about the safeties and LBers.

Outside WRs have been no threat.

It's also on the DL. They were pretty mediocre last year because of injuries, but this year it seems like it's still the same.

That PI on Moses was a situation where they're averaging 6 YPC and he's expecting a run, he has to overcommit there. So he ends up holding the tight end to prevent a long catch.

Frankly, I think DJ Dale is just not what we think he is. He isn’t an immovable rock like Payne, Ashawn Robinson, Reed or Chapman; and he’s not slippery like Quinnen, Barmore, Allen or Tomlinson.

It all starts in the middle and he just doesn’t require a double team ever. None of the Linemen really do. They appear to not be strong enough to mush rush, and I haven’t seen any of them, except Barmore, show ANY sort of pass rush skill/technique. In three games all I’ve seen is: engage the blocker, and push. Rarely, If ever, have I seen them swat hands away or rip and try and get to the QB. Just engage and push. Slowly. Very slowly.

It's called mush rush. And, I fricking hate it!

Imo, DL should be attacking -- to get penetration.

You would think they’d want to get after the quarterback as quickly as possible, given that there are so many blown coverages. At least make him try and throw on the run and make an errant pass or something.

Right now the mush rush has just produced mush results.

I don’t think we have the strength in the interior to have a productive mush rush.
