he still issued a stay at home order before Ivey.

Don't get caught up in a news headline. Compare what's in these 'stay at home' orders versus what in in place here and point out the differences.

There aren't any of significance.

Georgia just closed k-12 schools for the year. Alabama did that last week.

Mississippi closed their beaches yesterday. Alabama did that on March 19th.

Let's look at what you can do under Florida's "stay at home" order.

Go to the grocery, hardware, pharmacy, bank, get fuel, restaurant take outs, buy booze, buy office supplies, etc. Just like Alabama things like pure clothes and sporting goods are the only places not open.

You can go out exercising, fishing, hunting swimming, taking care of pets, checking on family.

Construction, lawn care, and pool companies can still work.

Private colleges and trade schools can still operate.

You can attend worship services.

Again, when you line up side by side, where Alabama is right now and has been for a week or more is on a par and in some cases (like the private schools) more restrictive than the magical "shelter in place" of other states.

Even with that, no restrictions added will do anything effective. The people that are going to respect whatever you want to call your restrictions have already been doing it. Those that haven't aren't going to start now.

These stay at home orders are much more advisories rather than actual enforceable. If a cop sees you outside in Florida, they’re not going to stop you and every single person on every street. Even if he does, you can just say you’re going to get groceries. What are they going to do to ensure you’re not lying? Follow you the whole way?

That being said they might scare at least some more people to stay inside

Yeah, I'm sure a Democratic candidate with impeccable credentials would have still lost.

Florida is a competitive state. Well qualified centerist Democratic candidates can win there.

The good news is that the underlying economy and the banks were in good shape prior to this, which is the opposite of how things were in 2007-08 when the financial crisis began. That should help the economy bounce back quickly when this ends. However, I fear that it will take much longer for the economy to turn around if this ends up continuing, as it is now, through July, August or longer.

True today but if this continues into the summer the damage will be long lasting and the Banks will be impacted

I guess that is the big differences here especially considering groups of 10 or more can not be formed. In Wake County no people can gather together unless all under the same roof. Just the other day a FL pastor was arrested for holding service.

100% idiotic! A federal mandate to all governors should require that they not allow it in their states for a while. At. All. Post the sermons on youtube or the churches' web sites. They can collect offerings online too.

Jasper’s Mayor issues Executive Order for retail and grocery stores

1. Stores are to allow no more than 50% of the stated fire capacity to enter or remain inside the building at any time.
2. Stores remaining open to the public must also mark clearly 6' in all checkout lines keeping those in line 6' apart, and in all high traffic areas of the store.
3. Stores must designate employee(s) to specifically monitor social distancing and all guidelines here. This employee must be assigned to this job.
4. Maximize spacing at checkout
5. Follow all CDC cleaning guidelines, and assign employee(s) to this task and maintain a written record of when tasks are completed.
6. No self service food - specifically in grocery and convenience stores.
7. You must give notice of the store's emergency occupancy capacity and post a written notice in a conspicuous place . This notice must be also posted at ALL entrances.
8. ALL stores conducting essential business and remaining open MUST have posted exclusive hours for high risk populations, including seniors citizens, and are still under the above occupancy rules.

The Coronavirus’s Unique Threat to the South
More young people in the South seem to be dying from COVID-19. Why?

Umm, a very large percentage of Southerners have terrible eating and living habits. They also frequently don't like to be told what to do by the gov't and think they know better. In other news, the sky is blue.

Thanks for the link, though.

Serious question, are you guys in the US just now doing stuff like this? Have you not been doing this for nearly a month already?

I completely agree with this, however, restricting religious services treads on much shakier legal ground than shutting down a gym or tattoo parlor. I think this situation is definitely enough to get through strict scrutiny, especially considering the measure is temporary, but there would be countless lawsuits filed. Like tens of thousands across the country.

Ivey held a Twitter Q&A for an hour just now. They answered 7 questions. 7 questions in an hour.

Ultimately I think we are better off letting the folks at UAB and other major hospitals, along with the mayors control our response. Ivey is useless.

Churches that are truly concerned with loving their neighbors are live-streaming and encouraging their members to social distance. Ones that aren't...I'd find a new church.

Well that varies state by state. Some of that stuff started like 2-3 weeks ago in many counties in Alabama. In certain counties it was more voluntary.
