Adding at least 1 zero to the Chinese numbers would make them more plausible

"$1,000 fine to residents caught without a mask in Laredo, Texas" LINK /

Not sure how you can enforce this when nobody can buy a damn mask.

Serious question, are you guys in the US just now doing stuff like this? Have you not been doing this for nearly a month already?

IMO, not enough people take it seriously here in the south . Been people complaining about people going to Lowe’s and stores like that just to hang out . Sure enough, this morning the manager and two employees tested positive , so Lowes is shut down

guess that is the big differences here especially considering groups of 10 or more can not be formed. In Wake County no people can gather together unless all under the same roof. Just the other day a FL pastor was arrested for holding service

Pretty sure that was LA. Those things I listed are SOME of what’s still specifically allowed under Florida’s shelter in place. I listed them to emphasize how simply putting words on a page doesn’t make the rules better or worse than a place that calls it something different.

Probably happened in NC, too. A FL pastor was also arrested for doing the same thing: LINK /

100% idiotic! A federal mandate to all governors should require that they not allow it in their states for a while.

The fundamental principles of our state/federal government prevents the president from having this type of power, it is literally one of the primary reasons the bill of rights exists.

I’m not sure a governor telling churches they must shutter will eventually stand up, but it is a dead certainly that a federal edict will not.

Unfortunately, there are a bunch of construction workers that go to Lowe’s and Home Depot and like to sit around and talk. This has always been a damn problem and has driven me crazy. Now people are getting sick because of it.

I talk daily to my mother, who is 79. She's a retired school teacher and so knows about everyone in her small town in South Alabama. She usually has a friend dropping off her grocery list since this started but had to go to the supermarket yesterday morning for dog food.

She said she will not be going out again for a while since literally 5 different people she knew tried to give her a hug!

It's mind boggling to hear that for someone who is stuck in NYC right now.

I don’t know why people can’t just go to the liquor store , like a red blooded American , sit at home and fuss with the wife like the rest of us then

I completely agree with this, however, restricting religious services treads on much shakier legal ground than shutting down a gym or tattoo parlor. I think this situation is definitely enough to get through strict scrutiny, especially considering the measure is temporary, but there would be countless lawsuits filed. Like tens of thousands across the country.

Make it a federal Executive Order through a certain date against group gatherings in general, with a clause that requests churches also refrain from congregating. It'd be nearly impossible to sue the U.S. Government or U.S. President over a request to take prudent precautions, especially when the request to churches is temporary and clearly requested to protect the health of the entire population. Churches and ministers shouldn't even have to be urged to not hold congregated services during this pandemic. It's sinfully irresponsible to do so, imo.

What’s scary is that some people are infected and won’t ever show any signs.

You are missing the point. That type of authority is vested in the states, not the federal government. The fact that you're talking about religious services adds a layer of complexity but even taking that off the table it isn't something he has the legal mechanisms to do. He would also lack any means whatsoever to enforce it.

He could ask that the state governments do so but at this point most if not all have already have done it. Alabama banned non-work gatherings of more than 10 people and gatherings of any size that cannot maintain a 6' gap a week ago and did not include an exception for churches..

Completely agree.

Edited to add - the part about nearly impossible to sue is laughable. The courts might slow track it so that the case became moot by the time it was heard but there would be dozens if not hundreds of suits before the end of the first day.

And down to 4 caseless counties.

That is literally impossible. He's saying a super Wal-Mart can only have 10 people in the entire store.

I am sure they will run into problems enforcing this but as mentioned previously in this thread places like Lowes and Home Depot have been blowed out whenever I ride by. I know there isn't that many people in there buying emergency parts for repairs which I think is the reasoning for keeping them open.

They will just turn into breeding grounds to pass this stuff around.
