I doubt even Lord Saban has a contingency plan for losing his coordinator right before the playoffs although that may change after 3 years in a row.

If he doesn't have one by now, we deserve whatever happens

Maybe he'll have a plan to cover a pick play now.

I think Saban will send Pruitt on his way now and turn to Tosh as DC for the playoffs.

I hope we can keep the recruiting momentum we just started picking up. Don’t forget how Pruitt screwed us over when he left for FSU. Wouldn’t surprise me if he tried it again.

I was just thinking about that.. he really stuck it to us. I almost didn’t want him back after that, but all trust in Saban

I would imagine his contingency plan would be to coordinate the defense his damn self. The man is the best defensive mind in college football ya know. Hes called a game or two in his day. Actually if he did do that, and called a couple brilliant games, won another title... yeah, that'd be pimp.

No possible way these commits announcing ahead of this news is a coincidence. Do believe these fellas were silent commits that were asked to ease the bad news by going public.

FSU >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>UT
I doubt we lose any of our top targets to UT.

Wish list:

Grand Slam: Brent Venables; open the vault and make the man RIIICCCHHH!!! Would be thrilled, even if it meant waiting 'til after the playoffs to nab him. Saban can be his own DC for the playoffs.

Homerun: Kevin Steele, bring him back to UA and add to the Auburn December turmoil and despair.

Triple: Mel Tucker, it was close between he and Pruitt for DC when Kirby left. Great coach

Double: Bob Diaco, 3-4 exp, former HC, broyles award winner at DC, lots of energy, builds tough Ds, currently looking for work after a one stint as Nebraska DC.

RBI single: Tosh Lupoi, great energy, attitude, and recruiter. Deserves a shot.

Runner advances safely on uncaught third strike: CNS to DC; a DL coach has binder, becomes HC.

I have no clue how well Tosh is at calling plays. Just because he is a good recruiter doesn't mean he should be evaluated as a DC.

I originally thought that Dan Brown would be good but he has a small sample size. He sure as hell wouldn't leave for a HC position.

Venables won't leave for a lateral position IMO. Kevin Steele jumps around all the damn time. Who knows.

I really like Mel Tucker but that's a lateral move too.

Y'all acting as if Tosh sliding in and calling plays in a few weeks is an easy transition... Christ. Pruitt is a big time loss for the Clemson game. frick Tennessee.

Venables.. no chance.

I do not want Kevin Steele back. Guy just lucked out walking in behind muschamp. His track record is long enough not to take a chance on him.

Why would Aranda (or any other well established DC) come to Bama?

He runs his own system as he sees fit. At Alabama we run Saban's defense, the way Saban wants it run. No established DC would come here

Basically, it has to be Tosh.

He's currently listed as the co-DC and by all accounts, is the team's best recruiter.

I understand he has no substantial DC experience, but if Saban looks elsewhere and doesn't promote him, he'll most likely walk and get a DC job from another program. (See Napier & Cristobal from last year)

Right now we really need an elite recruiter. I can deal with a guy that can bring in the players but may need a little bringing along by Saban. Tosh seems to fit the bill.

I agree. By all accounts, Kirby had never called a defense when he took over for Steele in 2008. I don't think Pruitt had done it either (maybe high school) when he started calling for FSU the year they won the MNC in 2013.

Tosh has been in the system long enough to make the transition. He has benefited from being on the headset with Smart and Pruitt as they have called games. I'm sure he has a feel of how the chess match goes and should be called. It would seem like the most logical choice.

Also, I think it would be easier to hire another hot shot recruiter as a position coach and start grooming him for 3-4 years down the road when Lupoi is poached.
