He is getting paid the same amount no matter where he coaches. Why not study under the goat?

This. He's still getting $200k per MONTH from UT. He seemed to like Tuscaloosa, the players liked him. Less pressure as an analyst, and he's got a shot at an SEC and NC ring.

The rings and the Saban time will carry a lot of weight whenever he's in the market for another HC job.

With all the things that are alleged to have happened during Butch's time at UT I can see why he wants to take it easy, still be involved in football in a lesser role, and get paid from UT. I get it.

and maybe he just likes sticking it to UT.

Actually, though, the 2.4 million per year he's getting from UT is better than he'd be paid as an assistant or even coordinator.

Unless he was offered more than $2.4m to be an assistant or coordinator, then he'll still make $2.4m. The only thing that would change is who is on the hook for that money. If Butch gets a job that pays him $1m, then UT still has to pay him $1.4m.

Overall I like this staff. Not thrilled with sark, but otherwise I think it's a good combo of recruiting AND coaching ability

Al.com Coaching Guide

Here was a good article from al.com on our coaching changes. It talks about their experience and recruiting prowess. A pretty good article overall. Not much that this thread hasn’t already discussed, but it’s in summarized form.

I’m excited about this staff overall. I think the defensive side of the ball has upgraded. There is a ton of experience with the coaches we hired. And I’m liking the offensive side of the ball as well. My biggest concern on that side is Flood. We’ll see how it all plays out soon enough.

Unless Saban has all of the analysts working 70+ hour weeks I'm guessing Butch probably enjoys getting his monthly $200k check from UTk while also not having to work P-5 coaching hours.

Per BOL's sources -- 2019 on-field staff:

OC/QB - Steve Sarkisian
RB - Charles Huff
WR - Holmon Wiggins
TE/ST - Jeff Banks
OL - Kyle Flood

DC/ILB - Pete Golding
OLB - Sal Sunseri
DL - Brian Baker
S or CB - Charles Kelly
CB or S - Karl Scott

ETA: Butch Jones off-field staff. Joe Pannunzio off-field or maybe back to NFL off-field. Craig Kuligowski not expected to be on 2019 staff.

Now that’s interesting. But not surprising. Saban knows the stoops well from his time recruiting the Youngstown area.

How many coaches/analysts do we have now?

We are at 11 coaches with Kool. Pannuzio is supposedly going either NFL or off the field with us. Kool off the field or NFL also. That still leaves us at 10 with the current leaked signed staff. Scott isn't going anywhere and we already have 5 offensive and defensive coaches. There isn't a spot that Jones has coached before even open on offense. Analyst wise we are at about the same number as last year with sunseri and stoops aboard now.
