Anyone thinks Maddox has a shot? I think it's a major uphill climb, but it'll be interesting to see how close it is.

Hopefully he campaigns as a moderate. I think that's what helped Doug Jones beat Moore (that, and folks just being dead sick of Moore)

Lots of rumors swirling about Ivey’s health being the reason she can’t debate. That and the “never married, no kids, might be gay” storyline will be interesting to watch.

Maddox is a better messenger. From what I can tell the only reason people like Ivey is because she’s like a grandma, not a Democrat and she took over for someone who was universally hated.

Sadly, Maddox's chances as governor ended the moment he declared as a democrat.

Roy Moore is a once in a lifetime deal for Alabama democrats. His reputation was turned into complete poison AFTER his name was set in stone on the ballot, causing nearly have the GOP voting base to stay home....

and he still nearly won anyways.

Maddox needs to hope it comes out that Ivey skeet shoots kittens or has secretly been a communist.

Those are the big reasons that she is liked. That, and she has so far avoided corruption and embarrassing the State. Democrats (particularly those from the DNC that aren't actually from AL) will probably go after her age. That might work for them, or it could backfire and make people mad.

Maddox is a better speaker and messenger. Ivey doesn't come across as a good speaker, particularly with her accent. Plus she is older. Those things don't indicate that she would perform well in a debate, and that's why she avoided them in the primaries and will probably try to avoid them now.

There are Democrats who say that state-wide elections in Alabama are now up for grabs after what happened in the Senate race. However, Doug Jones won because his opponent was Roy Moore, he didn't win because the majority of Alabama voters now embrace the ideas and policies of Democrats. People who hated Roy Moore were fired up to get out and vote against him, and a lot of people who would normally vote for the Republican candidate stayed home.

Jones helped his cause by running a moderate campaign and not caving to the demands of the hard left.

Had he come out trotting out gay marriage, etc...he would have gotten smoked.

I think Walt has a small shot. He is very likeable and represents a change that people, outside of old folks, are ready for. People in Tuscaloosa love him. He has done a lot of great things here.

Ivey hasn't done a bad job so far. We could certainly do worse, see Bentley and Moore. Her secrets worry me a little because I don't want another scandal here. People in Montgomery seem to know her drinking habits and private relationships all too well. I have no issue with her being a lesbian, but I think a lot of super conservative, vote republican no matter what, type people would not agree her lifestyle.

I think Maddox has a better chance than most people think. I also think he has more name recognition than people think.

If she debates him, she's an idiot. Blood bath.

She won't debate him. She would be exposed very quickly.

Her speech the other night was not good. She could barely get to the end of her sentence without being out of breath.

There is no way a Democrat wins the governor's race in Alabama.

Jones was a fluke caused by him being moderate and running against possibly the worst (and nuttiest) candidate in the history of the Republican party.

So he's really not a moderate and you want him to lie?

over 650,000 people in AL voted for a guy that was fired from his 2 previous public office jobs for incompetence and molested children.

that is f'n amazing

As a conservative who lives in Massachusetts, I can relate. We've only had 1 Republican Senator in the last 40+ years...and it was in a special election 2010. He only won by 4% against the poster child of the Democratic establishment that wanted to raise taxes for everyone (including the middle class). In a sane world, he would've won by double digits, but in Massachusetts, he had to hold on to win just because he had a "R" next to his name. He was a moderate Republican that was tough on taxes and crime, but he got voted out just 2.5 years later (2012), because he wasn't far-left and a socialist, much less have a "D" next to his name like Elizabeth Warren. She'll easily win re-election this November despite doing very little for our state, being arguably the most partisan Senator in the country (which she promised she wouldn't be), and passing very little legislation. Her toughest potential challenger is a moderate who has an endorsement from the most popular Governor our state has arguably ever had (Bill Weld, the LP nominee for VP in 2016). In 35-40 other states, Warren would easily be voted out for her less than stellar track record, but not in hard blue Massachusetts. It's very, very frustrating.

If I lived in the state - my number one question would be: Which of them is a Bama fan?

If yes, I strongly feel they have good common sense.

If they are an au fan, I immediately would rule them out. Why? They have demonstrated they don't have sound judgment.

A political party is just an means to an end. You gotta channel your inner Machiavelli and play ball in order to get things done. Nixon knew that, and so did Bill Clinton. I'm libertarian but I would run as a dem in most cities. My platform would be weed legalization, antiwar, pro-small business, and ending gov't persecution of jobs/affordable housing. I'm telling you the ticket is gov't run on blockchain.

Ivey is an Auburn fan. Walt played football at UAB.

Ivey is clueless. Literally. If you speak with her, you'll understand what I'm talking about. She won because she is the name people recognized, despite the fact that there were two MUCH better candidates on the R ballot.

Walt is a pawn for the AEA. He wants to institute a lottery, but he wants to earmark every single dollar. The biggest problem in Alabama is that special interests have successfully lobbied to have almost all revenue earmarked.

Certain things receive money whether it's needed or not. There is no ability to budget. There is more earmarked money in this state than any other.

Was hoping for Tommy Battle to at least win enough votes for a runoff. Guess his name isn't known enough beyond north Alabama.

Speaking of elections, is there a list anywhere of all the politicians that supported Roy Moore? I want to make sure that I never vote for any of them.

The only way Ivey loses is if she was trolling for high schools at the Gadsden mall in the 70s. Which is possible I guess.
