Things are heating up in the Republican primary. Looks like there will be a showdown between the Moore camp and whoever decides to support Byrne and Merrill. It's almost a foregone conclusion that Jones' chances are slim, being that the vote is on a general election ballot (guaranteed maximum turnout).

Honestly, I like Merrill out of most of the GOP side. He seems likeable and level-headed enough to represent the whole state without making goobers out of us all.

What if Sessions jumps in the race?

I think he'd be the favorite, but I wonder how much of his issues with Trump would affect the vote. Merrill could be seen as fresh blood.

Can we just agree to not vote for anyone that panders with religion or has ads with them holding a gun? That would be a decent step forward for this state.

Or licks Trump's boots in every ad.

I've met Merrill a couple of times, and I'll just say I was not impressed. To be fair they were very brief meetings, and the first time I didn't really know who he was. I've also met Byrne a couple of times and I liked him a lot better, but I have not been as impressed with him since he won his House seat.

Is Merrill going to recuse himself from overseeing the election? I have no reason to believe he would sabotage it in any way, but why would you not want to remove any doubt?

Baby steps. I figured all 3 would be too much to ask for at once.

I've heard that before

Throw Roy out there again and see what happens.

I wouldn't vote for Sessions either. I refuse to vote for Moore. I'm going to have to do some research before I decide on the remaining folks

Merrill is the guy I'll vote for. I've met him quite a few times. I'm impressed with him.

sessions has shown himself to be a two faced backstabber. i'd vote moore over sessions in a heartbeat. get someone that believes in the constitution, religious freedom, and the 2A. someone thats actually gonna support the president and not be a chamber of commerce bought n paid for stamp.

Prepare yourselves for Senator Tommy Tuberville. He’s going to make the runoff unless he really screws it up and he’ll likely beat Byrne because people perceive Byrne as an establishment insider. Tuberville shows no depth on any issue but that doesn’t matter to most voters. In fact, that’s probably considered a feature instead of a bug. There’s still 20% undecided and it’s a long way until March so who knows.

I’m not a huge Merrill fan but never disliked him. He has come across as kind of a goober with the rollout for his campaign. Fortunately, it looks like Moore is going to have a tougher time this go around. I still would like to see Byrne win. He’d be a really good Senator for us but at this point I’ll be happy with anyone besides Jones or Moore.

With 4 guys in it, I think it just increases Moore's chances at making the runoff, so you potentially have Byrne, Merrill, and Tuberville fighting for the 2nd spot in the runoff. I honestly have no clue who'd win that battle, but I think Byrne and Merrill both have an inside leg on Tuberville. Tuberville could market himself as the outsider though.

If Sessions decides to jump back in, that just further complicates things, but I think he'd make the runoff.

Honestly I think Roy is fricked.

in 2017 he was really the only MAGA candidate not soaked with Bentley baggage.

This year, he's a proven loser with multiple Trump candidates who don't have allegations surrounding them.

My money's on Merrill or Tubs to take the primary.

If Sessions is interested, Shelby will intercede with Trump for him. He's playing things very close to the vest for now, but that won't last long.

Hard to believe anyone with common sense would vote on Moore.

I hear that Shelby has already approached Trump regarding this possibility, but obviously nobody's talking at this point.

Why do you people think Sessions would even be a factor? People would line up to vote against that man. I would vote for Moore over Sessions in a second and if it were Sessions and Jones I would sit it out.

Sessions sold out President Trump and did his country a huge disservice, and I will never forgive him. He made one mistake naming him AG, don't make another one backing that SOB down here.

Shelby is another one that needs to go. He's been in there too long. I'm not in love with Bradley Byrne but I'll hold my nose and support him, and I could live with Tubs.

I have no love lost for Jeff Sessions, but this attitude sums up the rot of the current GOP. Sessions acted exactly how an AG with integrity should have.
